Job summary
The Clinical Bed Manager will undertake the planning and delivery of direct patient care, ensuring continuity of practice and working within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment. Take responsibility for the management of acute bed usage within the care group and gatekeeping of admissions. Actively participate in the effective management of the patient journey from admission to discharge by identifying actual and potential problems and resolve any issues to prevent delays to discharge. Assume responsibility for the management and daily operational tasks regarding acute bed utilization and proactively manage patient flow. To support aspects of service development. Provide effective clinical leadership, offer support, guidance and advice to other health care professionals relating to bed management and discharge/transfer from hospital. Provide clinical/managerial supervision of professional staff according to the trust values.
Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operational management of admissions and discharges to the acute wards within the care group and gatekeeping process
- Responsible for the line management of identified members of the service and ensuring that they are suitably trained and competent to carry out the full range of their duties.
- To support the development of effective mental health care pathways within the service.
- Support to service evaluation and audit systems.
- Contribute to the review, development and implementation of service wide policies and protocols.
- Support the establishment of partnerships and networks with key stakeholders.
- Provide daily bed availability information.
- Provide visible leadership, promoting a values-based culture and acting as a role model within the environment, creating and establishing a caring environment.
- Responsible for the effective use of the delegated aspects of the team budget, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
