Job summary
Due to promotions and significant investment, we have an exciting opportunity to specialise in mental health medicine whilst continuing to develop and maintain your knowledge and skills in general medicine. We are seeking to appoint a pharmacist whose career has demonstrated broad-based clinical knowledge and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and who are dynamic, motivated, and forward-thinking to join our friendly, innovative, and supportive team.
This post is suitable for pharmacists wanting to move sector and from any clinical background. The successful candidates will have a choice of two locations as base at Hellesdon Hospital in Norwich or Chatterton House in Kings Lynn and will be expected to travel between the two sites as part of the clinical rotation with travel reimbursement.
You will have a flexible approach to the needs of the service and have a strong team work ethic. Your main role will be to work with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide ward-based clinical pharmacy services, aligned to organisation's medicines optimisation initiatives. There is no dispensary and on-call commitment. Mental health experience is desirable but not essential as we have in-house training programme and offer the opportunity to complete the Aston University's distance learning Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Psychiatric Therapeutics.

Main duties of the job
You will be part of a team delivering a high-quality patient focused clinical pharmacy services to:
- Adult mental health inpatient wards
- Kingfisher Mother and Baby Unit (Perinatal mental health service)
- Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment
- Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
As a clinical mental health pharmacist, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to inpatient wards in line with Trust policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide specialist pharmaceutical care to patients from admission to discharge on the wards.
- Develop the role of the pharmacist in the MDT at ward level and take the lead on medicines optimisation and quality improvement programmes within your clinical setting.
- Provide prescribing advice and support to medical staff at ward level.
- Train, teach and supervise other members of the pharmacy team.
- Undertake medicines-related consultations to inpatients during their admission and run Medication Education (MedEd) groups on the ward.
- Advise, prepare, and deliver training for clinical staff (e.g., nurses, support workers, and doctors) on a wide range of medicines-related issues.
- Assist the Principal Pharmacist in communicating relevant Trust decisions and policy relating to medicines to local clinical areas.
- Work with and support the medicines management technicians, for example, by ensuring risks within medicines management are identified.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant medicines-related legislation and policy.
