You will work as part of the older persons multidisciplinary community team based in Stowmarket, east Suffolk. Medical colleagues are supportive and welcoming of psychological ways of working. Connections/joint working with psychologists and psychological practitioners across the older adult pathway are frequent and grounded in compassionate and supportive professional relationships.
The service provides support to individuals who are struggling to thrive due to a mental health difficulty and/or a dementia. The MDT strives to understand the person within the context of their informal/formal support networks and psychological interventions are tailored accordingly.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an 8a Psychologist (band 7 preceptorship applications welcome) to join the service at an exciting time of service transformation. Psychology is well integrated, respected and valued and there are ample opportunities to develop direct clinical skills alongside consultation and MDT working. There will be opportunities to influence the transformation of services and contribution to service related projects/interests will be strongly encouraged.
Main duties of the job
We are developing a preceptorship programme and have 2 newly qualified Clinical Psychologists in our Older People's services in Suffolk. Links with CAPs and D Clin Psy courses at UEA are strong and we are keen to support joint posts (get in touch to discuss your interests).
The service is working towards Royal College of Psychiatrists Accreditation and we are proud of our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to our service users and carers.
As an integral part of the MDT, you will offer formulation, consultation, supervision and training, as well as direct work with older people with a range of mental health difficulties and dementia, and their families and carers.
You will undertake psychological assessment, including neuropsychological, to inform formulation and intervention, you will offer and develop a range of interventions, including direct therapy, interventions with people with dementia and distressed behaviour and interventions as part of the Trusts personality and complex needs strategy.
You will be part of a team of psychologists and arts/psychological therapists working with older people in East Suffolk, including principal psychologists in the community and memory service, a CAT therapist, an Art Therapist, a newly qualified Clinical Psychologist in the acute service and 2 Clinical Associate Psychologists.
About us
You will have access to specialist later life clinical supervision, including neuropsychology supervision. You will be managed by a senior Psychologist and have access to the good links across the Trust with Older Adults Psychology colleagues.
Your CPD will be supported and you will be encouraged to access relevant training, according to your interests and service need.
The service line has had feedback from service users and carers about being a very skilled, kind and compassionate team. It has a very strong focus on working together. QI projects are encouraged and one currently underway has a psychological focus, looking at the impact on formulation on the discharge process.
There are very close relationships with the University of East Anglia and we provide core older adults and specialist third year placements. There are also excellent links with NSFTs strong research department and research opportunities are available and would be supported. Our 'Living Well with Dementia' programme was a 'Research and Evidence Impact' finalist in the recent Staff Excellence Awards.
