This is a wonderful opportunity for an 8a Psychologist (Band 7 preceptorship applications welcome) to join the service at an exciting time of service transformation. Psychology is well integrated into the team and there are ample opportunities to develop direct clinical skills alongside consultation and MDT working. There will be opportunities to influence the transformation of services and contribution to service related projects/interests will be strongly encouraged. We are developing a preceptorship programme and currently have 2 newly qualified Clinical Psychologists in our Older People's services in Suffolk. We have close involvement with the University of East Anglia and support the placements of trainee clinical psychologists and CAPs within the team as well as opportunities to becoming involved as a personal support tutor, or at 8a, a regional tutor.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for offering direct clinical work (specialist assessment, formulation, and intervention with working age adults with a range of mental health difficulties and their families/carers where appropriate), as well as supporting the clinical team to integrate psychological understanding to plan care and facilitate risk management. The role will include supporting the clinical supervision provision of MDT colleagues, providing consultation and team formulation. There will be opportunities to provide team training and support the implementation of the Complex Emotional needs strategy, formulation skills project, and service evaluation to improve quality of care and provision.

The postholder will undertake psychological assessment to inform formulation and intervention and will offer and develop a range of interventions. This will include direct therapy, groups (including DBT groups) and also interventions in the MDT to manage access to formal psychological therapies (Workbooks, Psycho-education, supervision of CAPs). There are opportunities to develop interventions for people with psychosis and bipolar and/or complex emotional needs. CPD and appropriate training will be supported.

The postholder will be part of a team of friendly and supportive psychologists and therapists working with adults in East Suffolk. You will have access to specialist clinical supervision, as required. There are also links with NSFT's award-winning research department.

About us

We are an experienced, cohesive and supportive multidisciplinary 'Integrated Delivery Team'. We provide formulation driven, MDT interventions to meet the needs of adults over the age of 25 presenting with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, serving a rural patch from a base in Ipswich. The post will offer ample opportunity for an enthusiastic motivated and committed qualified clinical or counselling psychologist to broaden their experience as part of provision which comprises of an existing 8b Clinical Psychologist, 2 x Psychological Therapists, Clinical Associate Psychologist and a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner Trainee, together offering specialism in EMDR, CBT and CAT. The team works alongside other specialist diagnostic and treatment pathways and teams including ADHD, ASD, Older Peoples' and eating disorders some of which are integrated into the same workspace facilitating liaison.

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling/Forensic psychology (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, accredited by the BPS
