Main duties of the job
You will be providing theory and practical skills training to NSFT staff in the subject area of Prevention and Management of Aggression.
This is a physically demanding post, providing daily training courses in Personal Safety and Physical Intervention, demonstrating and partaking in breakaway and physical restraint skills using a variety of teaching methods including role play.
You will be assessing participants' abilities to undertake and demonstrate competence in all elements of the training.
Work alongside the clinical staff to continue to educate by role modelling best practice in prevention and management of aggression.
You need effective communication and listening skills to work within a multi-disciplinary team to support our service users, staff and stakeholders.
You will be eager to expand your understanding of the subject area increasing your knowledge through continuous reflective practice to enhance your personal and professional development.
Work within the team to provide a safe learning and teaching environment to support the decision-making process in the assessment of skills, knowledge, and attitude.
You can plan, prioritise, and manage your own time effectively, seek guidance from your peers' building relationships with our stakeholders.
To achieve your initial Assistant Instructor certification, you will be required to complete a two week training course at West London Health Trust, Broadmoor Hospital. All expenses are paid and excludes the weekend.

Your main responsibilities on commencement of this role would be to attend your initial certification at WLHT as previously mentioned, complete your 6-month PMA Instructor Development Programme and continue to develop in your role to be accredited as a PMA Instructor.
Frequent travel between The Hollies PMA Department (Ipswich), and Angles Way, PMA Department (Norwich) is essential to complete your preceptorship and facilitate training.
You must have been continuously employed in a support or care role within social care, education or health care environment for a period of no less than two years.
You will have an interest in teaching, be passionate about reducing restrictive interventions and be keen to develop the theoretical knowledge required surrounding violence reduction.
You need to be physically apt to complete the daily activities involved in teaching and demonstrating physical intervention and personal safety skills daily.
Your main role and responsibilities will be to facilitate training daily, contribute to the day-to-day operational needs of the department, complete Health and Safety checks, prepare your teaching environment and comply with the Data Protection Act (2018) when completing relevant paperwork, and in discussions.
Maintain and increase knowledge in legislation, national guidance and NSFT Trust policies which are relevant to PMA and the clinical settings.
Complete all statutory and mandatory training needs as applicable to your role, with the willingness to complete additional learning specific to clinical practice in a timely manner.
Be able to develop positive professional relationships with all grades, disciplines and service users in the clinical and teaching environments and be actively involved in team discussions.
Be proactive and manage your own time effectively, share knowledge of your learning to the team and keep up to date e calendar information necessary for effective communication.
You can recognise and be proactive in developing confidence to reduce and manage anxiety levels for our attendees to support their learning.
You are willing to continue to develop your skills in teaching, effective communication and group management skills, can use your own initiative and recognise when to seek support and advice from your peers.
