Job summary

The Suffolk early help teams providing prevention and early intervention support to young people struggling with their mental health in primary care settings. They are seeking to appoint a Band 8b Principal Clinical Psychologist to lead on the implementation of the CFYP Primary Care Network (PCN) practitioners (Clinical Psychologists, OTs & mental health nurses), who will be working across GP practices in Suffolk to support the mental health of young people. This is an amazing opportunity to lead on a new initiative which is part of the transformation of the primary care offer for young people's mental health. We need someone with excellent leadership, systems and communication skills who is passionate about bringing psychology closer to families, young people and non-mental health professionals.

Main duties of the job

You will have a key role in the expansion and development of the early help services based in Primary care. This will require building strong relationships with all stakeholders (in particular General Practitioners) across the system and negotiating solutions to meet the needs of young people, making sense of and promoting their psychological needs.

You will provide clinical leadership including supervision and management for the new PCN practitioners and other existing clinical psychologists working in the primary care/early intervention space. You will ensure governance within the team and support safe practice across the system.

You will work closely with the PCNs, local NHS mental health provider (NSFT) and the voluntary sector to liaise accordingly at a strategic level to negotiate pathways and support input with complex cases and multi-agency meetings as well working with CFYP colleagues to develop services.

These teams include members from a range of professions (including Clinical Psychology, psychological therapists, PMHWs, mental health nurses, CWPs, EMHPs, systemic practitioners, assistant psychologists) and backgrounds (including Adult and CYP services) and draw on a range of therapeutic models in their work, including, Trauma informed practice, Systemic, Attachment and Mentalisation-based approaches CBT, ACT, CAT, CFT. It is an ambition that all of these team members will be AMBIT trained in the coming year.

You will have strong skills and demonstrated interest in supporting multi-disciplinary colleagues with psychologically informed ways of working, through clinical supervision, consultation, formulation, training and reflective practice.

Your person and professional qualities with reflect compassionate and intelligent clinical leadership- a relational focus, curiosity, optimism, collaborative genuine style as well as strong knowledge of the psychological needs of families and young people.

Local CFYP services are evolving, utilising the THIRVE model as the essence of a transformation which offers an exciting and original approach to mental health support. This role will contribute to the wider system thinking about the development of services at the interface of education, health and social care. This post is based at Endeavour house, but is Suffolk wide, with hybrid working arrangements possible. Being able to drive will be essential as the role will involve travelling to rural GP practices across Suffolk as well as a number of different hubs within the community.
