Job summary

Are you ready for a diverse, well supported post in a great location? Would you like to inspire and be inspired by others who share a common passion and commitment to working alongside and advocating for adults with serious mental health difficulties? Then this is the post for you.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an 8a Psychologist (band 7 preceptorship applications welcome) to join the service at an exciting time of service transformation. Psychology is well integrated into the team and there are ample opportunities to develop direct clinical skills alongside consultation and MDT working. There will be opportunities to influence the transformation of services and contribution to service-related projects/interests will be strongly encouraged. We are developing a preceptorship programme and currently have 2 newly qualified Clinical Psychologists in our Older People's services in Suffolk. We have close involvement with the University of East Anglia and support the placements of trainee clinical psychologists and CAPs within the team as well as opportunities to becoming involved as a personal support tutor, or at 8a, a regional tutor.

Main duties of the job

You will offer direct clinical work (specialist assessment, formulation, and intervention (group and individual) with working age adults over the age of 25 with a range of mental health difficulties and their families and carers where appropriate). You will provide clinical support and supervision groups to our social workers, nurses, OTs, and assistant practitioner colleagues to integrate psychological understandings to support the management of complex risk and plan care. The role will also offer consultation and develop team formulation. There will be opportunities to provide training to the team and support the implementation of the Personality Disorder strategy, formulation skills project, and service evaluation to improve quality of care and provision in challenging times. We also have a thriving recovery college and there will be an opportunity to contribute to courses if desired.

You will undertake psychological assessment to inform formulation and intervention, and will offer and develop a range of interventions, including direct therapy, including groups and also support interventions in the MDT to manage access to formal psychological therapies (First Steps Group, Workbooks, Psychoeducation, supervision of CAPs). Depending on interests, there is an opportunity to develop interventions for people with psychosis and bipolar and/or complex emotional needs. CPD will be supported, and appropriate training (including HEE funded training) will be available.

About us

We are an experienced, cohesive, and supportive MDT, providing formulation driven interventions to meet the needs of adults presenting with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, serving a rural patch from a base in Ipswich. The post will offer opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed qualified clinical or counselling psychologist to broaden their experience, working with an existing 8b Clinical Psychologist, Psychological Therapist, Clinical Associate Psychologist and a placement for a future Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, together offering specialism in EMDR, CAT, IPT and CBT. Many of the team have undertaken DBT 'essential skills' training. The team works alongside other specialist diagnostic and treatment pathways.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion and aim to attract and retain a candidate who is compassionate and committed to our trust values of working positively, respectfully, and together.
