Job summary

As part of our dedication to increasing our offer to families, we are delighted to be able to offer a Trainee Systemic Family Therapist post working across our Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service. This post will include working with families and individuals using systemic skills and other models, such as behavioural family therapy (internal training provided). The post will also include leadership of family interventions across the service, although the majority of clinical work with be in the Norwich base. You will be part of the psychotherapy team across the four teams and will work closely with the clinical team. You will be supported to complete your masters in Systemic Family Therapy and this post is subject to your successful application to a course commencing at the next available intake as well as passing the course and becoming and qualified SFT. The course will be fully funded and you will be provided adequate study time for your course commitments. You will receive supervision from a Systemic Family Therapist, alongside the support you receive on the masters course.

The EIP service sits within the Specialist Services Care Group which provides inpatient and community services for children and adults needing specialist mental health assessment, care and treatment. We have close links with the psychotherapy teams across the care group and we are working together on developing the psychotherapy provision within the Specialist Services as a whole.

Main duties of the job

The role will include, but not be limited to the following:

Taking a lead on family interventions across the EIP service (with supervision and support)

provision of systemic and family therapy interventions (under supervision)

. provision of behavioural family therapy (after internal training provided)

actively participate in reflective practice activities and make use of supervision

supporting the team to think systemically

co-facilitate groups or provide parent/carer interventions when relevant.

We are looking to appoint a skilled, committed, and motivated individual with excellent communication and organisational skills and a keen interest in working with families. Previous experience of working with individuals with psychosis or serious mental health concerns is ideal but not essential. We can accommodate some flexible working, in line with the service need.

Applicants will be required to have a mental health core qualification (Psychology/RMN/OT/SW) and be registered with a professional regulatory body, however applicants with relevant and extensive professional experience in a secondary mental health setting may be considered should they meet the requirements to be accepted into an accredited training course via the APEL route.

A willingness to engage in further study and practice towards eventual accreditation as a Systemic Family Therapist is essential. During training, study and placement outside Norfolk and Suffolk will be required. There will be no costs for the training incurred by the individual however the offer of trainee post to the successful applicant will be contingent on acceptance (or working towards acceptance) on to a MSc Systemic and Family Psychotherapy accredited training course. On achieving accreditation as a systemic family psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) the post holder will be upgraded to a Band 7 Psychological Therapist- Family Therapist role/salary.
