We have a unique opportunity for a substantive Clinical Psychologist or Senior Psychological Therapist (CBT) within the Child, Family and Young Person's (CYFP) Mental Health Services in an exciting and unique role working both as a research trial therapist and supporting with therapy provision within services.This is a hugely exciting development opportunity to be involved in clinical research, receive specialist training in CBT for Bipolar At Risk, and specialist supervision on working with this client group alongside developing clinical skills in working with young people with a variety of difficulties. You will also have the opportunity to embed clinical research further across our services, through numerous development opportunities and working across other research programmes. As a service line we are committed to working with you to consider professional development needs.We welcome applications from established Clinical Psychologists and Senior Psychological Therapists with a CBT specialism. We would also welcome applications from newly qualified Clinical Psychologists on a preceptorship basis (band 7 - 8a) and psychological therapists with a CBT specialism and appropriate experience, looking for development opportunities. The role involves working across two separate areas to make a full-time post. The time spent across these roles will be job planned and will depend on the various phase of the research trials/projects.
Main duties of the job
Research Trial Clinical Psychologist / Research Trial Senior Psychological Therapist
We are seeking someone to support with the delivery of trial therapy for an NIHR funded research trial - 'Cognitive behavioural therapy in comparison to treatment as usual in young adults at high risk of developing bipolar disorder (Bipolar At Risk): A randomised controlled trial to investigate the efficacy of a treatment approach targeted at key appraisal change (BART II)'. This is a multi-site research trial with Norfolk and Suffolk being selected as one of the sites. The trial aims to compare the effectiveness of a specialist CBT intervention vs treatment as usual for young people (16-25 years old) at risk of developing bipolar.
The role would involve receiving specialist training, delivering the intervention to participants in the trial, and attending specialist supervision. You will also support the promotion of this trial and work alongside the local trial team and research assistant psychologists to support recruitment and trial delivery. There will likely also be further opportunities to work with us to embed clinical research and evidence across our teams, working closely with our R&D department and Principal Research Clinical Psychologist.
About us
Clinical Psychologist / Senior Psychological Therapist
Outside of trial therapy, we would like to offer the opportunity for to the post-holder to support with psychological therapy provision within Child, Family and Young People's services across Norfolk and Waveney. There is flexibility to work at any one of an array of office bases across Norfolk and Waveney. These include offices in Central Norwich, West Norfolk (King's Lynn) and Great Yarmouth. We would support a range of both in-person and virtual working.
The role will include working with youth and young adults and their families. There is a strong team of clinical psychologists and psychological therapists within the CFYP service line and you will be well-supported in the role. We offer a range of psychological interventions including CBT, DBT, MBT, CAT, ACT, IPT and systemic psychotherapy. You will receive separate clinical and management supervision for this work outside of the trial therapy supervision.
Once the BART trial is finished, it is envisaged that the postholder will continue to offer clinical psychological interventions across the CFYP service line as well as retaining some time for any further research / trial intervention support and supporting the implementation of research / evidence in to practice. Further opportunities for supporting clinical supervision of other colleagues and other service-development roles can also be explored.
