Job summary

This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced and committed Clinical Psychologist to join our fantastic, psychologically minded older people's community mental health team based at Mariner House in Ipswich.

We are seeking applicants who wish to work full or part time.

With formulation at the heart of what this team does, you will support the MDT in taking forward psychologically informed care as well as offering and developing psychological interventions for older people, at an exciting time of service transformation. We are looking for someone committed to multi-disciplinary team working who can provide professional and clinical leadership to psychology and non-psychology colleagues. You will play a key role in developing the range of psychological interventions for older people with complex mental health needs within the service transformation framework, ensuring equity of access and appropriate adaptations.

We have an excellent track record in co-production and recently appointed the first Peer Support Worker in older people's services in Suffolk.

Main duties of the job

As an integral part of the MDT, you will offer formulation, consultation, supervision and training, as well as direct work with older people with a range of mental health difficulties and dementia, and their families and carers.

You will undertake psychological assessment, including neuropsychology, to inform formulation and intervention, you will offer and develop a range of interventions, including direct therapy, interventions with people with dementia and distressed behaviour and interventions as part of the Trust's personality and complex emotional needs strategy.

Managed by a consultant clinical psychologist, you will be part of a team of friendly and supportive psychologists/psychological therapists working with older people in East Suffolk, including an 8b Clinical Psychologist in the Memory Service, a full time CAT therapist, an Art Psychotherapist and 2 Clinical Associate Psychologists. You will have access to specialist later life clinical supervision, including neuropsychology supervision. We have strong links with our later life psychology colleagues in West Suffolk and Norfolk.

This team has had feedback from service users and carers about being a very skilled, kind and compassionate team. It has a very strong focus on working together, with very proactive leadership and a strong focus on development. QI projects are encouraged and one currently underway has a psychological focus, looking at the impact on formulation on the discharge process.

There are very close relationships with the University of East Anglia and we provide core older adults and specialist third year placements. There are also excellent links with NSFT's strong research department and research opportunities are available and would be supported.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
  • Further post- qualification, post- graduate training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC)

Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Experience

Essential

  • Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity.
  • Relevant experience in service area
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presenting problems including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems

  • Working in the relevant service to support specialist knowledge
