Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a 0.6 x WTE Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS) called Atlas. Atlas is one of the services we deliver in partnership with the National Probation Service within the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway (OPD pathway) in Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT). We form part of secure services within NSFT who have been consistently rated "Good" by CQC.

Our Atlas services offers psycho-social support for people on probation who are transitioning into the community from custody or hospital. All our service users screen into the OPD pathway, meaning they have personality traits linked to their risk management. We typically work with our service users up to 18 months, including preparation work in custody and support thereafter in the community. As such, there is great opportunity for longer term work. Our work is formulation led; this means there can be flexibility and creativity in the work you do within the team to meet the individual needs of service users.

As part of the role, you will be able to join up with other Occupational Therapists in the OPD pathway via the OT Network. You will also receive monthly clinical supervision via one of our Senior Occupational Therapists within secure services in the trust. There are also plans to set up an OT Peer Support Group within the pathway.

Main duties of the job

As part of your role, you will be expected to take on a small caseload across Norfolk and Suffolk of service users within Atlas who are likely to benefit from your skills and expertise. This will involve contributing towards discussions about a case to help identify individual needs and intervention planning for how we can meet these within the service and within your role. As a 0.6 role, part of your role will involve attending a weekly meeting where we review the full caseload, where you can provide updates on your work and contribute to case discussions. There will also be time for clinical supervision, line management, and mandatory training each month.

As the role is service user facing, you will be required to travel and work independently with service users at pre-planned sites, such as probation approved premises, NHS locations, or other community sites agreed as a team. Part of your role will involve liaising with other professionals outside of the team, such as probation officers, other mental health workers involved with a case. This is an exciting time to join our team. There is scope to help us shape this role to maximise professional and service user benefit.

Please see the Job description for important skills, qualities, and requirements of the role. In addition, we would like the successful candidate to contribute towards our team's service evaluation and research strategy, staff training, and offering clinical supervision to junior members of the team.

About us

We believe that is important to support the wellbeing of our staff through regular clinical supervision and by promoting a healthy work-life balance. We believe that staff, who feel valued and supported by their employers, provide better outcomes for our service users. Several team members relocated to join us and continue to enjoy what the trust and living in Norfolk and Suffolk offer.

Our team consists of professionals from health and Probation services. We have a Clinical Lead Psychologist, Senior Probation officer, Probation Officer, Forensic Psychologist, Trainee Forensic Psychologist, Probation Service Officer, part time Research Assistant Psychologist and Team administrator. We value partnership working in our team, learning from each other' perspective and a team-based approach to delivery. We are a very friendly and approachable team; we enjoy meeting up for face-to-face meetings and social activities.

Most of our team are based in Norfolk. We have a small NSFT office based in Norwich, Hellesdon Hospital Paston Centre which you would be welcome to use. As we cover both Norfolk and Suffolk, we exercise flexibility between home and office working, as we recognise the work often takes the team out on visits to sites or individuals.

We are looking forward to welcoming an Occupational Therapist as part of our multi-disciplinary team. You will be coming into the service to complete our team; you will be able to develop the role with the team in line with your expertise.
