Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and committed Clinical Psychologist to work full time with the childrens and young peoples Eating Disorder pathway in Suffolk. This post has been newly commissioned at a time when the pathway teams are expanding, both to meet the demands of the service, broaden the clinical expertise in our treatment offer and to support the ongoing alignment of our new model of working cross the county of Suffolk. This is an opportunity for you to be part of an established pathway but to have the added benefit of making a significant impact on the shape of the service for the future.

Main duties of the job

The pathway is undertaking significant development with the expansion of our teams with newly commissioned monies and development of pathways to include additional areas of practice including FREED, the use of ROMS, and our local MARSIPAN pathways. There are new posts within the wider pathway which includes CYP-ED and AED teams, so you will have significant opportunities to take a key role in this expansion.

We know the impact of COVID has been significant for many people and the impact of this on young people who have had the first experience of an eating disorder and those already at some point of their recovery the impact has been considerable.

About us

We are working to pre-empt this demand and engaged in a transformation programme alongside partners and stakeholders to contribute to the whole pathway of eating disorder provision and secured recent new investment to strengthen our treatment offer to meet the needs of young people and adults.

We are engaged in

  • Developing paediatric and adult treatment pathways with local acute providers
  • Providing a co-produced parent support group
  • Developing an Expert by Experience group to work alongside us
  • Developing medical monitoring pathways alongside primary care colleagues
  • Providing the team with training in a NICE concordant treatment modality
  • Providing training to colleagues across the Trust, acute Trusts and schools
  • Participating in eating disorder regional
  • Participating in QNCC and QED review processes of our service
  • Utilising a training budget provision to ensure all team members receive specialist training
  • Provision of parent skills training workshops

There will be some direct therapy work and some team formulation and consultation. The post-holder will supervise a Psychology Assistant who is working on various projects including the provision of team wide ROMS. The post-holder will provide clinical supervision to the teams as required and will have a strong working relationship with the senior leadership team in contributing to clinical leadership for the pathway.

There is the expectation to weigh and take blood pressure as part of treatment and you will receive the appropriate level of training in this which will include when to report on to other colleagues for further action.

The post is working from bases in both East and West Suffolk (Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds), although you may be required to attend other sites as part of your role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post graduate degree or equivalent in Clinical Psychology, accredited by BPS
  • Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience

Essential

  • Working as a qualified clinical psychologist band 7 or (Band 8a)
  • Ability to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist
  • Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment

Skills

  • Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management
  • Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals, within and outside NHS
