Main duties of the job
This is an exciting time to be a part of our expanding Crisis Pathway, with ambitions to provide the best quality care to all in need of crisis/acute care. As the Consultant, for our 17 bed later life inpatient admission ward, you will be providing excellent clinical leadership for acute care and contributing to the development of the wider pathway. You will be working with a supportive MDT to deliver high quality care, in line with national standards, and making a valued contribution to the development and implementation of acute care pathways for those in need of hospital admission.
You will be joining a highly supportive, experienced and friendly team of psychiatrists specializing in later life. There are three substantive Consultants in post and two part time Specialty Doctors. There is also additional funding for a new whole-time equivalent post to be advertised shortly, covering CRHTT and PLS.

Job SummaryWe are seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join our inpatient unit for older adultsbased on Abbeygate Ward in Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds.
Description of the PostThe Consultant, who will need to be an Approved Clinician, will have overall medicalresponsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients admitted to AbbeygateWard, at Wedgwood House, West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds. This is a 17bedded mixed gender ward, with 10 functional beds and 7 dementia beds. Thispurpose-built ward is divided between 2 units with separate communal areas fordementia and non-dementia sufferers. All rooms are single and ensuite, withseparate male and female corridors. This post involves close working with the wardbased multidisciplinary team as well as collaborative working with community mentalhealth services, based in Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket. At times patients areadmitted from other localities within the Trust. In addition, the post holder will need to 9 work with local Adult Social and primary care services. There are close working relations with the West Suffolk Hospital, which is on the same site.

- Recognised basic medical degree
- MRCPsych or Equivalent
- Included on the GMC specialist register or within 3 months of CCT or equivalent in a relevant clinical specialism
- Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approval under MHA

- Relevant higher degree (i.e. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
- Substantive experience at consultant level in the relevant specialism
