Job summary
This is a new permanent post working with two of our well-respected teams as part of the Crisis/Liaison Pathway based on the West Suffolk Hospital site. The Crisis/Liaison Psychiatry Team are expanding to a Core 24 plus service model and are a key component of West Suffolk Hospital Mental Health Transformation Project.
This post is an exciting opportunity for a consultant psychiatrist, who is dedicated to developing and improving services for those in later life, to provide clinical leadership for the delivery of excellent clinical care for older adults requiring crisis and liaison support. You will be responsible for providing consultant clinical input to the hospital in the management of older adult presentations in the emergency department, older adult wards and outpatients via the Home Treatment Team. The new service model emphasizes teaching and supervision of nursing and clinical colleagues/trainees and contribution to research/audit to evidence and support quality improvement.

Our vision is to ensure that all service users, carers and professionals have access to a service 24/7 that can provide support, advice and assessment in a compassionate, patient and recovery focused way. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant with experience of working within mental health settings who is passionate about crisis and liaison work and ensuring that safe and effective interventions are delivered in a timely and compassionate way.
The CRHTT functions to offer an alternative to hospital admission and to support discharges from the acute admission wards for patients aged 18 to later life. The liaison team is attached to the general hospitals Emergency Department and the CRHTT is based a short walk away at Wedgwood House along with our three inpatient wards and First Response Service.
This is a dynamic role which will provide the post holder with ample scope to develop clinical and leadership expertise.

Embedding Quality Improvement is key to the services development and you will benefit from access to the Trusts QI training and support. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in and lead QI projects. The Care Group are highly supportive of research, Quality Improvement and CPD.
Applicants for the post should have, or be eligible for, a CCT and General Medical Council Specialist Registration within six months of the interview date. Full GMC registration, approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, eligibility / approval for Approved Clinician status and appropriate psychiatry experience required.
