An exciting opportunity has arisen for NMC registered midwives to join our community midwifery team.

Our community midwifery services strive to provide high standards of evidenced-based, personalised care from hospital and community bases across Tameside and Glossop.

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic midwives with a flexible approach to work, who can work autonomously and within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide safe and effective care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.

You should be confident and knowledgeable, with excellent interpersonal and clinical skills to fulfil the requirements of this role. We expect our community midwives to work within our guidelines and pathways, and exercise professionalism, initiative and sound clinical judgement to appropriately refer to and work alongside our MDT and partner agencies.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder is responsible for the holistic care of childbearing women and their families. Care provided must be evidence based and planned in partnership to meet the needs of the women.
  • To work as a member of community team of midwives providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care pathway for women and their families. Managing your own diary and being flexible to meet service users' needs.
  • The post is for a Band 6 midwife (or an experienced band 5 due to complete their preceptorship) preferably with 2 years' experience to work in the community and intrapartum settings. The intrapartum care will be provided on an on call basis to support the homebirth service.
  • To maintain effective communication and working relationships.
  • To possess the skills to undertake midwifery care to a named caseload of women, during all stages of their pregnancy journey including the postnatal period.
  • Provides a full range of health education and social care advice to women within an integrated model of care pre-conceptually and antenatal.
  • Provides care through the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods for women and their babies in a hospital or community setting.
  • To support the Team/ Ward/Departmental Manager in the effective management of the clinical area.
  • To lead, support, supervise and teach staff.
