Advanced Pharmacist-Aseptics Services Deputy manager
Band 8a - 15 hours - permanent
We are seeking an experienced Aseptics Services Pharmacist for a part time role, deputising for the Accountable Pharmacist (Aseptics Services Manager). This individual will support the Accountable Pharmacist to meet the national standards and guidance within the ASU. They will contribute to the overall management of the Aseptics service and help deliver the cost effective and safe Aseptic preparation of products.

JOB SUMMARY:
To deputise for the Accountable Pharmacist for the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit as defined by Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services.
To be responsible, under the Accountable Pharmacist for ensuring compliance with national standards and guidance within the Aseptic Services Unit (ASU).
To contribute to the management of all aspects of Aseptic Services and to help deliver the safe and cost-effective aseptic preparation of products including chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), centralised intravenous additive service (CIVAS) for use within Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
To assist in the development of aseptic services within the Trust in line with local, regional and national priorities and legal and professional guidelines.
To assist in managing staff and financial resources within pharmacy aseptic services to ensure the effective operation of these services.
To contribute to developing the pharmaceutical quality system (PQS) and audit activities within the ASU.
To assist with the training of rotational pharmacists, technicians, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
To contribute to the provision of a safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to a designated clinical area, namely the neonatal, paediatric, nutrition and oncology specialties.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- a) Specialist Duties & Responsibilities
- To assist the Accountable Pharmacist in managing the provision, organisation and development of a comprehensive Aseptic Dispensing Service, ensuring compliance with current directives, legislation, external audits, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Health and Safety. This service includes the provision of chemotherapy, TPN and CIVAS.
- To manage and develop the role of the existing senior technical staff.
- To contribute to the generation and review of the Unit Capacity Plan
- To be involved in managing the workload within the Capacity Plan, ensuring safe levels of operation and coordinating economical outsourcing of services where demand exceeds capacity.
- To ensure adequate supervision of staff as appropriate.
- To be responsible for undertaking the professional release for individually dispensed aseptic products prepared under Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act, including adult and paediatric intravenous additives, total parenteral nutrition and cytotoxic chemotherapy in accordance with the Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, local procedures and policies, and safe systems of work.
- To monitor and maintain environmental standards within the ASU in line with national and local guidance.
- To interpret highly complex environmental and quality system monitoring data with high level critical evaluation to ensure safe operation of the unit, taking decisions on remedial action handling decisions on closure as appropriate.
- To be involved with critically evaluating the aseptic quality assurance systems with a view to ensuring that best practice is in operation within the ASU. To evaluate new directives and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with these.
- To be responsible for the rolling internal audit calendar using iQAAPS for the Unit and to coordinate any action necessary from the audit cycle.
- To advise on policy, procedures, facilities, equipment, safety and staffing within the ASU.
- To participate in the external audit from Quality Control Northwest (QCNW) in line with EL (96)52 Aseptic Dispensing for NHS Patients. To contribute to the coordination of any action necessary from this audit cycle.
- To be responsible for writing, developing and approving documentation within the unit including Standard Operating Procedures, staff training and approval records and physical and microbiological monitoring records in line with national and regional guidelines, Health and Safety and other relevant legislation.
- To ensure completion and review of the unit Validation Master Plan.

- To control the risk of error by ensuring safe systems are adhered to for the prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines requiring aseptic preparation and for the investigation of medicine errors. To undertake any remedial action necessary.
- To undertake product development and formulation work as required.
- To contribute to the appraisal system within the unit and ensure that staff motivation and direction are given through Personal Development Reviews, staff assessment and approval, general communication and specific feedback.
- To assist the Aseptic Services Manager in ensuring appropriate staffing levels/ skill mix, undertaking the recruitment, selection, appointment, induction and training of all aseptic unit staff.
- To provide cover for the absence of the Aseptic Services Manager.
- To ensure that an efficient aseptic dispensing and distribution service is provided to patients and staff which is in line with good practice and conforms to agreed service deadlines.
- To contribute to the design, monitoring and coordination of all training and accreditation of staff within the Unit, including pharmacy assistants, student pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and pharmacists. To be responsible also for adequate supervision of staff in training at all times and the authorisation of individual responsibilities in line with departmental, Trust or national approved programmes. To be involved with ensuring satisfactory delivery of this training to all staff involved with the unit to the satisfaction of Quality Control Northwest and MHRA inspection.
- To be responsible for participating in monthly meetings with the Director of Pharmacy for the strategic planning and development of Aseptic Services at the Trust in line with NHS and Trust priorities.
- To assist in ensuring planned preventative maintenance is in place in cooperation with the Trusts Estates Department. To develop, maintain and monitor the service level agreement and ensure adequate maintenance contracts with outside agencies are in place to cover equipment and facilities in the Aseptic Unit.
- To participate in the undertaking of clinical trials as have been approved by the Local Research Ethics Committee by arranging the necessary supplies and aspects of trial protocol affecting pharmacy services in accordance with ICH/GCP guidelines & European Directive.
- To provide highly specialist clinical and technical advice and expertise to doctors and other healthcare professionals on the use of Parenteral Nutrition for adults and neonates. To provide highly specialist clinical advice on the prescribing, preparation and administration of cancer chemotherapy referring to product stability, clinical appropriateness of treatments, protocol, dosing and dosing intervals. To modify and advise on regimes.
