Paediatric Consultant - 10 PA's
We are seeking to appoint a full-time consultant to join the existing team of 13 Consultants as part of the Paediatric Acute & Community Consultant Department, in the Surgery, Women's and Children's Directorate at Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The clinical duties will be primarily based at Tameside Hospital.
The post holder will have opportunities to develop other interests within General, Community Paediatrics and Neonatology.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the day to day running of the Acute, Community Paediatric and Neonatal service and will also have every opportunity to participate in the management of the service. They will undertake outpatient clinical activity and contribute to the development of specialist services to achieve consistent, high-quality care within the department.
This will be 10PA per week. The position is a permanent appointment with an on-call commitment of 1:10.5 rotation.
The successful candidate will join a team of highly dedicated integrated 0-19 Children's service with medical, nursing, AHP's, Health visitors, School nursing and other professionals to help grow, develop, and innovate the service to meet modern standards of care. for Children and young people.

The job plan currently includes a Childrens Medical Unit (CMU) hot week (1 in 10) and a NICU hot week (1 in 10). Clinic weeks include up to 3 clinics, there is anticipation for the successful post holder to expand knowledge within the community statutory clinics such as Initial health assessments and Educational health care plans, with full support and training.
The post holder will:
- Provide direct input to patients; contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and lead the co-ordination of care for patients within the Trust.
- Adopt an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the Paediatric and Neonatal Services.
- Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care.
- Ensure there is a robust process for reviewing the quality of services provided and ensure the highest standards are maintained.
- Act as a clinical supervisor for trainees and participate in the Postgraduate and Undergraduate teaching programmes within the department.
- Provide a role model of professional leadership, ensuring these are understood and demonstrated by the medical workforce.
- Offer educational, clinical support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Other activities will be based upon the interest(s) of the successful candidates.

The timetable includes administration time and SPA activity. The SPA activity will also include consultant educational supervision for a trainee(s) and personal (e.g. audit, clinical governance, clinical supervision, CPD, e-portfolio).
This post will entail 8.25 PAs for direct clinical care, including 4 PAs for on call/hot weeks and 1.50 SPAs.
