CONSULTANT - ACUTE MEDICINE10 PA's - Permanent Post available

We are seeking to appoint a Substantive Consultant to join our current team of seven Acute Physicians at Tameside Hospital. The successful candidates will help us to continue to develop acute medical services within the Trust which includes responsibility for not only the acute medical units but also ambulatory emergency care and our Integrated Assessment Unit. These are 10 PA posts with 7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPAs which includes a requirement to support the Acute Medical team over a seven day period.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for you to have a central role in the development of Acute Medical Services and to participate in our exciting transformational programme as an Integrated Care Organisation, whilst providing high quality acute care for our patients.

The successful candidate must be currently working at Consultant level in Acute medicine, and completed their CESR or CCT. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for further development and be supported by a clinical supervisor as part of their career progression.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST

This post will be the part of the Urgent Care Consultant body at Tameside Hospital and will strengthen the team that manages the Acute Medical Unit, Integrated Assessment Unit and the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.The post holder will require the ability to drive improvement in the unit that is required by patients, staff and the government and to promote best practice in the management of all cases that are admitted for medical emergencies and cared for within ambulatory care pathways.

The role will be required to provide high quality acute medical and multi-professional care, allowing for prompt and accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment plans and timely discharges. This is to be undertaken in close relation to the cardiology and respiratory specialty teams to provide rapidinput for those patients presenting with complex cardiac or respiratory conditions. Patients with other general medical problems will be requiring a longer inpatient stay will be transferred to the general medical teams.

The role will be required to facilitate high quality training to junior doctors by providing a supportive environment where best practice is promoted.

The post will also offer the opportunity to continue another interest such as Respiratory or Cardiology. The candidate will be able to negotiate their sessions in line with their interest.

The trust is prepared to be flexible in terms of how this is factored in to the job plan with a maximum of 2 Programmed Activities being allocated to a specialty interest.
