Job summary

Neuro Rehab Occupational Therapist Band 6 OT- 22.5 hours 12-month fixed term (cover maternity)

Community Neuro Rehab Team (CNRT) offers support, advice and therapyintervention to adults who have a physical and/or cognitive impairment, due to an acquired neurological deficit.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well motivated Occupational Therapist, who can demonstrate skills appropriate to the role, working in neurology. You will need to be able to travel around the district for service delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to become a member of our interdisciplinary community team. You would be a part of a rewarding and developing service, committed to providing evidence-based intervention.Utilising your knowledge and skills, you will work closely with the patients, their family/carers and other professionals from statutory and non statutory agencies, to offer consultation, advice, education and goal focused episodes of therapy.

With your excellent ability to listen and to be creative, you will be expected to facilitate complex problem solving, plan a goal orientated approach and to communicate this effectively in order to address issues which have been identified.

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will understand the benefits to be gained from a team approach, where each team member's contribution is valued and where experience is shared.

Main duties of the job

Carry out occupational therapy neurological assessments, plan and deliver treatment and offer education and support to patients and their families, in a variety of community settings.

You will be expected to practice autonomously but work as a part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team. You will be expected to carry a complex clinical caseload and be required to delegate work to support staff.

The post holder will need to:

  • Develop working relationships with the immediate team
  • Communicate with a wide range of people to ensure that treatment planning and intervention is holistic and cohesive

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out appropriate occupational therapy assessments, based on good practice
  • Developing treatment plans, tailored to the patients need and demonstrating sound clinical reasoning
  • Delivering therapeutic intervention based on the findings of your assessments
  • Promoting self-management to all patients
  • Supporting patients (and their carers if appropriate) by providing information which is well sourced and of good quality.

Planning and organising

The post holder will:

  • Organise and plan their own day to day workload, in order to meet the demands of the service and job role
  • To participate in the supervision of more junior/unqualified staff
  • To supervise occupational therapy students on clinical placement within CNRT

The post holder will ensure safe and effective use of equipment, resources and consumables at all times.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development and Implementation

The post holder will:

  • Be aware of, comment on and actively participate in changes on policy, procedure or service development.

  • Embrace and support line management and the department, in making service improvements effective within the work place
  • To contribute to interdisciplinary training
