Plaster Technician Band 4 37.5 hours - permanent
Outpatients is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing individual patient care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating plans of care in accordance with agreed policies and professional guidelines and providing a plastering service for the orthopaedic ward, fracture clinics, and theatres .
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to give high quality care and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. You will consistently ensure that a patient's privacy, dignity and psychological well-being is maintained, and at all times, the care given is patient centred.
The post holder will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. We require individuals who are forward thinking, well organised and with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change.
Main duties of the job
Be responsible for providing a specialised musculo-skeletal casting and bracing service on instruction and prescription from an accountable clinician.
Work as part of a Trustwide team of Orthopaedic technicians providing a comprehensive range of casting and technical services to Outpatients Clinics, wards, Accident and Emergency and Operating theatres within service limitation as required.
Be actively involved in the direct and indirect care of patients under indirect supervision and will contribute to an environment of safe and effective care.
Assist the clinician with overall responsibility to deliver a quality service which is researched based and within the guidelines of TGH.
Liaise closely with nursing and medical staff to ensure the prescribed care is provided for the individual needs of the patients.
Work autonomously within the specialist area of practice providing advice, consultation and discussion with clinicians with overall patient responsibility.

- Report all accidents / untoward incidents and ensure the completion of relevant documentation.

- To assess evaluate and implement necessary care treatments in the Nurse led/practitioner clinic.
- To apply appropriate casts following consultation or written instruction with / from members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the patients care.
- To maintain effective communication links with all members of the multi-disciplinary team patients and their carers.
- To follow Trust and associated policies and procedures in the application of all casts and braces and to assist in the development and implementation of such where required.
- To undertake clinical duties for which competence has been assessed and achieved such as wound care and removal of sutures / clips
- To maintain accurate and contemporaneous record keeping and to uphold the confidentiality of all patient information.
- To provide advice to staff regarding the management of care of patients in casts.
- To provide instruction to patients / carers regarding plaster care and encourage patient / carer involvement.
- To ensure patients safety, comfort, privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.
- To safeguard patients property/belongings in accordance with Trust Policies.
- To contribute to the effective structure of clinics.
- To maintain a professional attitude in approach and appearance.
- To ensure practice in casting and bracing techniques throughout the Trust is undertaken by

3 To maintain all equipment and consumable required for the plaster room to function effectively

- To report any faults and / or repairs required to line manager and or other departments as necessary.
- To ensure all equipment is functional and meets service requirements.
- Undertake risk assessments on the environment and the use of all associated equipment.
4 To work as directed in an appropriate clinic environment should there be no requirement for thePost holders specialist skills in the plaster room.
