Job summary

Kitchen Assistant Band 2 - Relief - full time

The post holder will be required to work as part of a team providing a high quality catering service and will assist with the efficient operation and production of catering services provided to patients, staff and visitors.

The post holder will check all areas of the kitchen before the end of their shift to ensure that all floors, working surfaces, equipment, refuse bins and utensils etc. are clean and stored correctly.

If you are successful you will be given the opportunity to study towards a Level 2 Facilities Services Operative which will be paid for by the Trust. If you are not looking to complete a qualification this is fine, we are interested in you and the skills you can bring.

Our catering service operates 7 day service 6am-8pm

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to work on their own or as part of a team to deliver services as directed by policies and procedures.

The post holder will check all food storage areas to ensure that food is being stored correctly and in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.

Job responsibilities

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

To ensure that the Patient Meal service is prepped and cleared down in line with Food and safety legislation.

To ensure cleaning duties are completed on the plated meal service including patientscrockery, cutlery, service utensils and all plated meal service areas.

Cleaning of all floor areas (incl. edges and corners).

Correct storage of all food items ensuring that all food is covered and labelled.

Ensure all work schedules are completed

Report and record any problems that are identified whilst on shift, and detail what actions have been taken

Ensure the appropriate use and care of correct cleaning materials and that, the proper standard of hygiene is maintained in all catering areas.

To ensure the security/safety is observed in all catering areas.

Ensure the correct use and care of dishwashing machines and other catering equipment.

Maintain a neat, tidy and clean appearance at all times and endure the use and care of protective clothing.

To wear your uniform at all times whilst on duty including safety shoes.

To report any mechanical defects and the need for repairs.

Assist in the control and issue of kitchen linen and laundry.

Adhere to all cleaning schedules as detailed.

At the end of shift, check that all areas are clean and secure

At the end of shift, ensure all cleaning materials are stored away, and that cleaning equipment is clean and dry

Ensure all small utensils should be stored correctly on the shelves in the appropriate area.

Ensure that all dirty disposable dish clothes are discarded at the end of the day, oven cloths and oven are being washed each evening.

To comply with all aspects of Food Safety Act 1990 Health and Safety at Work Act, Fire Policy, Pest Control Procedures and Environmental Health Regulation.

Checking and maintaining standards of hygiene, as laiddown in the Trusts Hygiene Codes of Practice and localcleaning schedules.

The completion of production documentation as required.

To assist as and when required in the trolley loading of patients meals

Maintains the Trusts premises and equipment in a hygienic manner and in good repair.

To be accountable to the Assistant Head Chef/Head Chef for the day to day tasks.

Responds to emergency events as part of the Trusts Major Incident Team.

Use of manually and mechanically operated catering equipment

Attendance at meetings and training sessions as deemed appropriate by Management.

To report any mechanical defects and the need for repairs.

Any other task requested by Deputy Head Chefs, Head Chef or the Catering Management team.

Hygiene1. To ensure high standards of personal hygiene, including those of subordinate staff.2. To maintain good hygiene practices and strict compliance with the Trusts Code of Practice on Food Hygiene Regulations.3. The reporting of any evidence of pests within the department.4. To present yourself for duty with full clean, Trust standard uniform, including designated headwear that should be worn at all times5. To follow the cleaning schedule identified and ensure that tasks are completed6. To report to your immediate supervisor any problems that might put at risk the Trusts hygiene standards.
