Consultant - Care of the Elderly10 PA'sPermanent roleThis is an exciting job for an enthusiastic candidate offering a combination of an acute elderly care ward with specialist interest to develop services further.
This post will be the part of the Elderly Medicine Consultant body at Tameside General Hospital and will strengthen this team. The post holder will require the ability to drive improvements in areas of his interest. These developments and improvements are required by patients, staff and the government and to promote best practice in the management of all cases, which will include delivery of emergency admissions, inpatient management and outpatient clinics and services. The role will also include driving improvement in the service by facilitating training to junior doctors, assisting in pathway design to enhance the Elderly Medicine and chosen specialist area.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be actively involved to establish outpatient clinic template for his/her chosen specialist area and can include Falls/Stroke/TIA but any other specialist can be looked at too.
- The post holder will have responsibility to provide care for inpatients on Care of Elderly ward as well as provide specialist care such as orthogeriatric/surgical liaison/frailty/stroke/TIA. The post holder will be supported by junior doctors' middle grade.
- The postholder will have the opportunity to be the clinical and educational supervisor for named trainees.
- Developing existing clinical protocols and pathways to maximise efficiency in patient flow.
- Working closely with the Diagnostic Clinical Support service departments to maximise the effective and efficient use of the beds.
- Promoting effective communication within the departments and with the wider hospital by regular liaison with specialist medical and service departments within the hospital
- Take part in the professional supervision and development of all the junior and middle grade doctors within the Elderly Medicine Wards including appraisal and personal development planning
- Demonstrate commitment to, and participation in, Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit.
