Staff Nurse - Integrated Surgical and Gynaecological Unit (ISGU) Band 5 Permanent position - Various Hours

Due to recent expansion of our service we are looking to recruit a number of nurses into our established team.
We are looking for highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic nurses, who are passionate about delivering high quality, evidence based care. You will need to be equipped with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. You should be an enthusiastic, innovative, highly motivated nurse to fulfill this exciting role.
Working on ISGU will require you to care for patients undergoing emergency surgery including general surgery/colorectal and gynaecology.
You will be a highly skilled individual, able to effectively assess, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of care for our patients, in the pre and post operative period.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to take charge of a team of patients which will require excellent prioritisation and management skills as this is a fast paced environment.
You will be supported to develop a range of clinical skills and expanded roles to ensure our patients receive evidence based care.
You will be expected to support unqualified staff and junior colleagues, sharing your knowledge and skills to promote their development.
You will be required to engage and work in collaboration with several members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be required to communicate effectively with your patients, their relatives and your colleagues, providing high quality, safe care.

This role will hold key responsibility for the Integrated Surgical and Gynaecological Unit (ISGU) and will be responsible to the Band 7 Unit Manager accountable for this area.
To utilise and further enhance existing skills which enable the post holder to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within sphere of responsibility.
To ensure all patients receive high quality patient care.
To assist in the management and organisation of work in the clinical area.
To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
Main Responsibilities
Professional and clinical
1. Provide the delivery of evidence based nursing care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC Code.
2. Ensure all records relating to patient care are accurate, clear, concise, legible and in accordance with the NMC.
3. Actively assess and manage risk within the clinical area.
4. Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and the NMC Standards for medicines management.
5. Participate in audits of practice.
6. Participate in the teaching and supervision of other members of staff under the direction of the Team Leader.
7. Support the Clinical Governance systems to delivering high quality of care.
8. Assist the Team Leader in achieving budget control and order supplies when necessary.
9. Participate in personal development reviews for junior staff.
10. Working in accordance with the NMC code. Competently undertake expanded role.
11. Participate in benchmarking activity within the Clinical Area and implement outcomes from audit
Administrative/Managerial
1. To develop skills which enable the post holder to take charge of a shift and ensure organisation and delivery of patient care.
2. Adhere to the Bed Management policy and adherence to the Admission and Discharge policies.
3. Support the Team Leader in effective Resource Management.
4. Participate in ensuring the delivery of the Trust targets.
5. Develop skills and knowledge which enable participation in complex activities
6. Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of implants, prosthesis, equipment etc.
7. Contribute to the design, development, and participation in new working practices and patterns following consultation and agreement with all concerned parties
Human Resource Management
1. Participate in the training and development of student nurses and other staff as appropriate.
2. Participate in clinical supervision for junior staff in accordance with Trust policy.
3. Assist the Team Leader to ensure that there is appropriate allocation of staff duties.
4. Ensure communication of information of a complex nature is given sensitivity and confidentiality is maintained
