An exciting and innovative development opportunity has arisen within the Information Department based at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT which is committed to developing its information capability to help support effective decision making.The goal of the department is to collect and deliver accurate and timely service level analytics Trust-wide and provide actionable information solutions supporting service provision, performance monitoring, service improvement, routine self-service reporting, ad-hoc analysis and statutory reporting.

Main duties of the job

The post of the Business Intelligence Data Analyst Apprentice will embark on a 17-month apprenticeship course learning all the relevant skills to playing a pivotal role to supporting the Trust-wide strategic Data Warehouse and reporting/dashboard solutions in Microsoft Power BI. Reporting to the Head of Business Intelligence and working alongside the Senior Developers you will play a key part in developing, maintaining and extending the current dashboards and self-service reports to meet the detailed and varied information and reporting needs of the organisation.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will need to undertake an apprenticeship programme of study which will be delivered by QA. This is a Level 4 course titled Data Analyst Including Power BI.

This post will be set within the Business Intelligence team, which is part of the Corporate Information Department and will be working collaboratively with other colleagues.

Data Warehouse
  1. Design, code, test and implement efficient T-SQL scripts, Views and Stored Procedures, as part of Data Warehouse development.
  2. Help support, when necessary the monitoring of performance of the Data Warehouse. Highlight any issues to the Senior BI Developers.
  3. Developing the Data Warehouse to fulfil the requirements of a Business Intelligence System.
  4. Ensure all information outputs of the Data Warehouse are accurate, fit for purpose and delivered to the appropriate timescales.
  5. Ensure that documentation is developed and maintained for the Data Warehouse.
  6. Working with other aspects of SQL Server namely SSDT and to develop new data sources using Python and maintain existing ones.
Report Developer
  1. Design and develop sophisticated and interactive reports from data held within the various Trust IT systems including the extraction of data from current non-DW systems.
  2. Provide support in the use of IT systems; undertake data analysis using T-SQL, and develop automated reports using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and visualisation dashboards using Power BI.
  3. Develop drill-through reports to meet user requirements to replace (on an automated basis) the need for some existing manual reports.
  4. Interrogate live information systems as appropriate and maintain and interrogate stand-alone databases for the production of information reports which are not supported by the Trusts PAS
  5. To ensure thorough documentation and change control processes are in place, accessible and maintained for all processes and developments

Ensure that patient confidentiality is respected by adhering to documented procedures that support the Caldicott principles and the Data Protection Act.

  • GSCE English and Maths (6 and above) or Level 2 functional skills equivalent
