Nutrition Advisor - Band 3 - 22.5 hours per week - Permanent

The successful candidate will join the well-established and highly regarded Children's Nutrition Team. A key part of the role will be delivery of the 10 week multi-component JUMPS4Life Family Weight Management programme, which is delivered to families with children aged from 4 to 16 years. In addition, the candidate will support the wider work of the team including:
- Delivery of training to the children's workforce in Tameside - across health, social care, education and voluntary organisations
- Delivering the Award schemes in place across Tameside Early Year settings, schools and children's homes
- Delivering the Cook4Life programme

Main duties of the job
To work as part of a community based Children's Nutrition Team promoting good nutrition and healthy living within the local community, working especially with children and their families in partnership with school nurses, health visitors, schools, the Sports Trust, children's centres, the private, voluntary and independent childcare sector, youth groups and children's homes, and other community venues e.g. leisure centres, with the overall aim of preventing and reducing childhood obesity and promoting healthy weight. The role includes working on Healthy Lifestyle Programmes for children, young people of all ages and their families, especially supporting the roll out of a family weight management programme to young people aged over 13 years. Nutrition Advisors work under the guidance of Senior Nutrition Advisors. The team is led by the Lead Paediatric Dietitian who also, alongside the dietetic team, provides professional supervision.

- Facilitate the promotion of healthy childrens nutrition by working with children, young people, families, and personnel who work with children in Tameside.
- Support the Senior Nutrition Advisors in engaging with families, children, young people and service users about all aspects of the service, to contribute to identification of unmet need and improve service delivery.
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of community healthy lifestyle programmes, for children/ teenagers of different ages and their families.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of accredited/ non accredited Food and Nutrition training for staff / volunteers working with families and children.
- Work with other agencies to provide support for families with children who need help to manage their weight.
- Support schools, private, voluntary and independent childcare settings, childrens centres, youth groups and childrens homes to promote healthy eating with children and families; this includes working on award schemes to promote healthy eating.
- Contribute to preparing evidence based session plans / resources / leaflets to support activities.
- Contribute to providing information about the teams programmes and activities in a wide range of user friendly formats to promote engagement and referral.
