Mammographer/Trainee Mammographer -Band 5

We are looking for a Mammographer to join our department.
Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust provides a symptomatic breast imaging service to the Tameside population prioritising patient focussed care. We have good liaisons with the wider breast team and links with University Hospital of South Manchester for MDT.
We currently have two brand new Pristina GE mammography suites and two ultrasound suites within a dedicated breast imaging department.
We are a small friendly team and pride ourselves on staff development, supporting advanced and associate practice.
Main duties of the job
To undertake routine mammography within the NHS foundation trust. To provide support to the wider breast imaging team when required e.g. biopsy procedures. Other duties will include, routine QA equipment testing and general housekeeping. Undertaking any clerical duties as per department needs and supporting weekend sessions on an ad hoc basis.

- To undertake mammography in symptomatic one-stop clinics and follow up screening mammography
- To assist in more complex procedures e.g. Breast ultrasound or biopsy
- To develop/ maintain high quality clinical standards of mammography whilst minimizing technical repeats and recalls
- To observe all relevant Radiation Protection legislation and comply with Local Rules and IR(ME)R 2017
- To work within the time constraints of the one-stop breast service
- To check and document identity and demographic details of all patients, to observe and note any breast problems, significant clinical signs and symptoms, referring to a Senior Radiographer where necessary
- To ensure patients receive a comprehensive explanations about the mammographic examination and procedure for receiving results
- To undertake all QA of mammography equipment on a regular basis and report and discrepancies to a Senior Radiographer
- To be aware of the needs of every patient and be able to communicate with patients from different backgrounds and those with challenging behavior, learning or physical disabilities
- To take telephone enquiries in an efficient and polite manner, referring to relevant members of staff as appropriate, taking into consideration language and cultural barriers
- To communicate effectively with all members of the breast team and other departments
- To provide assistance to the Advanced Practitioners/ breast Consultants during invasive procedures
- To provide support to patients undergoing specialist procedures
- To assist with the maintenance of adequate stock levels and to keep the department clean and tidy
SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- To apply IR(ME)R 2017 regulations
- To understand the relationship between anatomy, pathophysiology and the imaging process
- To apply QA protocols to the mammography equipment and understand when to escalate remedial results
- To have knowledge of best practice guidance and apply this to practice
SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT
- Use of heavy X-Ray equipment regularly.
- To work in a small area to a strict and demanding timetable.
- Moving and handling of patients e.g. Wheelchair patients
- Positioning for biopsy procedures.
- Dealing with emotionally demanding situations on a regular basis.
- To offer support, empathy and understanding to patients undergoing investigative diagnostic procedures.
- Observing safe practice when handling hazardous materials e.g formalin biopsy pots and bodily fluids.
