We are looking for candidates with excellent communication and organisation skills to be part of an exciting opportunity within our Fit Testing Service

In this role you will be providing a rapid Fit testing service for our staff, working within a team of other fit testers, carrying out a vital task of fitting and testing FFP3 masks to ensure an adequate seal is provided to protect our staff from airborne transmission of the virus.

Full training will be provided for the role, with continued supervision and support as we work together to protect our staff and tackle the pandemic. You will assist in setting up the equipment allocated, in preparation for fit testing a range of alternative masks, recording the outcome of each test. You will be required to ensure the equipment is cleaned and safe to use between individuals and decontaminated at the end of each session.

Main duties of the job

COVID-19 vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course our patients from the virus when working in our healthcare settings. We will be checking the vaccination status of all new starters so that we can manage individual and environmental risks, and so that we can support those who may be undecided about vaccination. Job responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct face fit tests on Trust staff and non-Trust staff required to wear FFP3 masks, specifically:
  • Being clear on the face fit testing process and being able to describe this to staff.
  • Follow manufactures instructions for fitting different makes models of masks.
  • To ensure that the mask being fitted is fit for purpose, is a good fit before conducting the test by assisting in fitting the mask ensuring a good seal.
  • Directing the member of staff through the face fit exercises.
  • Recording the result of any face fit test.
  • Explaining to the member of staff which mask they have passed on and when they should book another fit test, if required.
  • Where no fit is achieved advising staff on alternatives and how to access them.
  • To assist in data entry and administration tasks as required.
  • Ensure the environment is clean, tidy, free from clutter, all equipment is set up correctly, checked and in good working order.
  • Ensure staff to be fit tested have clean shaven faces (8-12hrs) remain Nil by Mouth (small sips of water only), and advised not to smoke or vape 30 minutes prior to their Fit test
  • Ensure staff understand the importance of other PPE to be worn when wearing an FFP3 mask and know the correct method to don and doff safely.
  • Support fit checks that undertaken by the staff so they understand the importance of undertaking a fit check each time the FFP3 mask is worn.
  • Support trials and evaluations of new FFP3 masks as advised completing documentation as necessary.
  • Maintaining effective infection prevention control standards at all times.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with the Fit Testing Lead and all members of staff and colleagues affiliated with Face Fit Testing. Communicate effectively with others, recognising that there may be a requirement to utilise alternative methods of communication to overcome barriers to understanding.
  • The post holder will be required to feedback to the Fit Testing Lead to improve and develop the service to improve the efficiency and effectiveness.
  • The post holder will be required to deal with potentially stressful and emotional circumstances by dealing with members of staff who are under a huge amount of pressure. It will be important to be able to empathise with members of staff and offer a service that is confident and reassuring.
  • Participate in discussions and team meetings, as required, in relation to the face fit testing process.
  • Highlight failure or concerns of particular masks to the Fit Test Lead.

PLANNING & ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS:

  • Plan and organise own workload in line with face fit testing appointment system.
  • The post holder may be required to Fit Test around different areas of the Trust, this could include wards, estate buildings, and meeting rooms.
  • Make amendments to the appointment system for face fit testing, as required, and report any issues to the Fit Test Lead.
  • Ensure stocks and supply of masks are readily available
  • Ensure all daily tasks and checks completed in a timely manner

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Attend mandatory and Porta Count training in compliance with Trust requirements.
  • Attend Trust and local orientation programmes and completes and updates mandatory training as defined by the Trust.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Standard keyboard skills required for data entry.
