Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and flexible individual to join our Patient Transport Operations (PTS) management team based at Whitefield Ambulance Station (East 2), Greater Manchester, on a full time and permanent basis.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of PTS Operational Managers with responsibility for the effective management of the staff in PTS Operations, ensuring the provision of a first-class PTS service to more than 1.2m journeys each year.

Applicants should havedeveloped knowledge of NHS and local context and hold a recognised management/leadership qualification or suitable relevant experience. Applicants should also be able to evidence ongoing personal development and have excellent communication skills. Applicants should have experience of working in an operational environment and have a highly developed and visible leadership style.

The post holder will mainly work Monday to Friday 08:00-16:00 under NHS Agenda for Change guidelines. Patient Transport operates a seven-day-a-week service, and the post holder may occasionally be required to work unsocial hours, including Bank Holidays. Therefore, flexibility is an essential requirement for this role.

Main duties of the job

PTS Operations Manager

Accountable for the direct delivery of transport services to patients travelling for non-urgent and non-emergency treatment within a specified area, ensuring all operational resources employed in the delivery of the service are clinically appropriate to the patients' needs and ensuring that standards of patients & staff safety are adhered to and that quality & performance targets are met.

The PTS Operations Manager will ensure the development and maintenance of strong local collaborative working and stakeholder engagement with senior managers across organisational boundaries and the effective management of the local reputation to ensure ongoing deliverability and sustainability of the service.

The PTS Operations Manager will be directly responsible for the effective management and visible leadership of all Ambulance Care Assistants and volunteers within service delivery for their area of responsibility, ensuring delivery of a high quality, safe and efficient service to patients and stakeholders ensuring operational risks are effectively managed.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport. Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
