Job summary

Secondment which may become permanent if a permanent job becomes available.The Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS) is expanding its clinical workforce by introducing a new Advanced Practitioner role open to suitably experienced Nurses and Paramedics.

The post provides an exciting opportunity for motivated Paramedics and Nurses to be involved in the Trusts new delivery model. Rotating between the Clinical Hub providing telephone triage to NWAS patients and responding from designated NWAS sites to patients who have the potential to be treated at home following your initial telephone consultation. You will be responding in a non-emergency vehicle.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced Paramedic or Nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries will provide enhanced clinical decision making to support pathways of care to lower acuity patients both through telephone consultation and face to face assessment. You will ensure the delivery of excellent patient care through the continuous achievement of high clinical standards. You will work autonomously and support patients within our community. You will be expected to undertake relevant research and development activities. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to peers within your role.

About us

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The length of mentoring will depend on previous experience. You will then be given time to allow you to grow confident in the role. The training requirements for the face-to-face aspect of the role will be dependent on your clinical background and experience. It is a pre-requisite that clinicians complete any necessary training, including sign off for independent practice in both telephone triage and face to face assessments.

  • Registered Paramedic with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (UK).
