Safety Learning Officer

We serve more than seven million people across approximately 5,400 square miles - the communities of Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Glossop (Derbyshire).We receive approximately 1.3 million 999 calls and respond to over a million emergency incidents each year. We make 1.5 million patient transport journeys every year for those who require non-emergency transport to and from healthcare appointments. We deliver the NHS 111 service across the region for people who need medical help or advice, handling more than 1.5 million calls every year. We employ around 6,300 staff in over 300 different roles.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Quality, Innovation and Improvement Directorate, this role will support the improvement of safety within the organisation by:
- Supporting the assessment and development of safety culture
- Supporting the delivery of safety learning across the organisation from a range of insights including serious incidents/patient safety incident investigations, incidents, complaints, coroners, external organisations, regional/national reports and learning from excellence.
- Contribution to the design of safer systems and quality improvement projects relating to safety
- Working with a range of internal and external key stakeholders to improve safety
- Contribution to the development of innovative learning materials and platforms for sharing knowledge through a range of methods such as case studies, skills drills, improvement tools, best practice and research.
- Provide general support and assistance to the Patient Safety Specialist and other leaders in the Quality Management Team, as well as the wider organisation
- Support the organisation to maintain CQC compliance in relation to safety
- Support the development and implementation of safety related policies and procedures
- Responsible for the planning of /teaching/delivery of core training on a range of subjects or specialist training (for example Patient Safety Training)
About us
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
