Job summary

In order to provide effective and resilient support to NWAS Critical Systems (both in and out of office hours), without impacting day to day IT tasks (BAU) and the digital project workload, NWAS needs to ensure that the right IT support is available in the Right Place, at the Right Time, Every Time.

The role of Technical Support Specialist (Networks) has become available within the Team due to internal promotion and to enable a proactive culture of continuous improvement and resilience within the team.

As a part of the Trusts infrastructure team, the Technical Support Specialist (Networks) will be a senior authority on the NWAS network (both WAN and LAN), working under the Delivery Assurance Officer will be responsible for the maintenance and management of both the existing network solution and all future developments.

You will be considered a Subject Matter specialist for the NWAS network and will use your developed technical knowledge and experience to drive the continual improvement of network services to the trust. You will be one of the most senior escalation points for all Trust network issues, providing advice and guidance to both the ICT Senior Management Team and the 3rd line infrastructure engineers.

Due to the above, it is expected that the successful candidate will have at least 5 years experience of a Cisco network environment at a senior level, experience in Palo Alto or Aruba equipment would be a large benefit.

Main duties of the job

The Technical Support Specialist (Networks) will work with the Delivery Assurance Officer to maintain network systems which meet the needs of our changing digital landscape, assessing business requirements across the Trust and recommending solutions which meet current requirements, whilst future proofing design and maintaining awareness of technology developments and the strategic direction of the trust.

You will ensure that network telecommunications design incorporates resilience, reliability and sustainability. You will ensure comprehensive system design and configuration documentation is produced, maintained and controlled throughout the life of the solution. As part of the role it would be expected that you would cross train and gain experience on the Telephony side of the Team as well. This will be facilitated internally.

Your technical abilities will be tested at the Interview and your experience in the above should be detailed on the application to ensure that you are taken through to the Interview stage.

Regular travel in your own vehicle may be required across the Northwest and occasionally nationally (subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions) whilst a reduction in unnecessary journeys via the use of technology will be actively encouraged.
