Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Facilities Assistant to join the FM team at Broughton, our area admin site for the Lancashire area.

The successful candidate will need to be fit and able to move freely across all areas of the site, carrying out a wide variety of administrative and manual tasks, some of which will be outdoors.

This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic team player who can complete many, varied tasks and activities on a day to day basis.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to deliver against a broad range of duties including use and maintenance of precision relevant tools and equipment such as:

  • Woodworking & joinery tools - planes, chisels & handsaws
  • Hacksaw for metal
  • Electric drill with hammer capability for drilling in to masonry bricks etc.
  • Laser level
  • Electrical & Test Equipment - pipe/cable detectors. Voltage/Continuity tester to test sockets and circuits
  • Hand tools. - spanners, sockets, wrenches from small 5mm sockets to large 70mm monkey wrench
  • Screwdrivers, small precision screwdrivers to large 10mm

You will be required to use your initiative and as this is a front facing role, candidates should be of a smart appearance with a pleasant disposition.

You must be able to demonstrate communications skills in all forms and be proficient in Microsoft; Word, Excel and Outlook.

You will be trained to act as a fire marshal.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

  • We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Essential

  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE level in 3 subjects including English and Mathematics

Desirable

  • NVQ level 2 in customer care or equivalent qualification and/or experience

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Plan & organise own workload, prioritising tasks and activities on a day to day basis
  • Must be computer literate and able to operate Audio Visual (AV) and IMT equipment
  • Physically fit and well and able to move and handle furniture, equipment and boxes between buildings and across various floors, using narrow stairs
  • Understands and maintains confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to undertake training on a one to one basis
  • Able to communicate information clearly
  • To work from ladders/steps in accordance with H & S regulations
  • Required to repair a range of faults in buildings, grounds and equipment. Repair all that toolkit and internal resource facilitates
  • Faults above the agreed range; make recommendations to line manager and/or estates on the viability of investment in the trust toolkit versus occurrence and agree where necessary to call on measured term contract (MTC)
  • Appraise MTC contractors with faults, liaise as required, monitor completion and sign off

  • Able to maximise efficiency through using initiative and effective decision making ability

  • Knowledge of security and maintenance systems and procedures, cleaning and CoSHH (provided through induction and job training)
