Job summary

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to practice public health in the ambulance sector, with the post holder helping drive improvements in population health and reduce inequalities in outcomes in the context of urgent and emergency care.

As a provider of emergency services, the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) responds to more than 1 million emergency incidents per year, as well as having 2 million patient contacts through the Patient Transport Service and more than 2.5 million contacts via NHS 111. This makes NWAS well placed to support the wider healthcare system in identifying and supporting patients earlier in their pathway to prevent further illness. Uniquely, NWAS reaches patients who might not be seen by other elements of the healthcare system, providing insight into issues relating to access, health inequalities and the wider determinants of health that may not be visible to other services. These opportunities will allow the Public Health Manager to practice public health in a unique setting across a diverse population and geography to help reduce the burden of disease for our population.

Main duties of the job

The Public Health Manager will work within the Medical Directorate to further develop, and deliver, the Trust's public health strategy to ensure that ill health prevention, health inequalities and health promotion are part of core frontline service delivery and are embedded within longer term strategies. A key function of the role will be partnership working both within NWAS, and externally with partners to inform wider health system development and preventative interventions.

NWAS is committed to employing compassionate, inclusive and adaptive leaders. We offer a dynamic recruitment process, enabling applicants to work together, be at their best to make a difference, in line with our trust values and leadership philosophy. Applicants are requested to be available on 18/01/2022 for the selection process
