NWAS MERIT Doctor
Participation on an on-call rota and training participation
As part of the North West Ambulance Service commitment to developing Medical Emergency Response Incident Teams (MERIT) across the region, there is now an exciting opportunity to be part of a world-class medical advisory team.
The trust is looking to appoint several doctors to support a non- resident on-call rota over 5 regions of the North West (Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and Greater Manchester).
Main duties of the job
As part of the Resilience Team, you will support the Trust in its achievement of all Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery responsibilities. The role requires you to be decisive and able to make safe decisions quickly and calmly under pressure, and confident in situations of mass casualty management.
The MERIT response allows for the provision of medical advice for the Tactical and Operational health command structure. You will undertake the roles of Medical Advisor and Forward Doctor supporting emergency services staff and ambulance commanders already on scene at significant, major and mass casualty incidents.

MERIT training is unique, exciting and provides a wide range of paid CPD opportunities plus. On-going CPD will be supported by 7 days paid mandatory training per annum at a pre-determined flat rate dependent upon the grade of the candidate. You will be required to complete an initial three-day training program. Additional paid training opportunities may be available in addition to the standard contracted arrangement.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full Registration with GMC
- Pre-hospital Emergency Care course and/or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- CCT (or equivalent) with entry on Specialist Register for Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care or Surgical or Medical Speciality on GP Register.
Desirable
- Minimum of 7 years' (or full-time equivalent) appropriate experience in a relevant speciality to include anaesthesia, critical care, emergency medicine and/or acute surgical speciality
- MIMMS certified
- Level 7 or higher training IBTPHEM/ Skills for Health Career Framework or equivalent
- Diploma in Immediate Medical Care (or working towards)

- Working at Specialist Trainee ST6 or above level
- Applicant's knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely
