Job summary

Are you interested in working in an Ambulance environment and achieving a nationally recognised qualification? You can earn while you learn whilst training to be an Emergency Medical Technician 1.

The Trust is embarking on an apprenticeship programme for Emergency Medical Technicians. The apprenticeship will take a minimum of 13 months, commencing with 20 weeks training (you will be given two week as annual leave).

You will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change.

For the first 12 months you will receive 70% of the top of Band 4 (£16909.89) and move to 75% of the top of Band 4 (£18117.75) after 12 months.

Upon completion of your apprenticeship you will eligible to move onto a full Emergency Medical Technician 1 contract of employment. This will not be before month 13 and may be extended if the required assessments have not been successfully completed. The salary for this will be Band 4 £21,892.00 pa - £24,157.00 pa plus an appropriate unsocial hours payment.

Main duties of the job

When you start at the Trust, the first 20 weeks in training will be in one of our training facilities, this will consist of 14 weeks classroom training will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and 4 weeks emergency blue light training.

After that, you will be deployed into an EMT apprenticeship. As an apprentice, you will work alongside other EMT staff and Paramedics initiating and delivering appropriate care and effective treatment to patients in both a hospital and pre-hospital environment. Here you will be selecting and applying appropriate skills and equipment safely whilst working within the appropriate level of training, competency and scope of practice for the role.

You will benefit from dedicated clinical support from your trainers, managers/crew, to help you through your apprenticeship programme and successfully complete your apprenticeship.

About us

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.

We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Mathematics, English Language and a Science at Grade 4-9 or equivalent
  • Candidates with healthcare experience and GCSEs in Mathemat ics and English Language at Grade 4-9 or above, or equivalent will be considered.
