Job summary

Band 7 Medicine Safety Nurse

Permanent Term Contract. Full time 37.5 hours per week.

We are looking for a specialist Medicines Safety Nurse to join our Pharmacy team . You will work closely with the Pharmacy Medicines Safety Team to provide specialist insight to medicines-related safety issues from a nursing perspective.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a specialist nurse who offers advice and support to professional groups in all areas relating to medications safety. They will act as a resource/link across the Trust to ensure that patient safety systems / processes, which relate to medicines management in clinical areas, are safe, legal and comply with national and professional guidance, requirements, policy and legislation.

The post holder will have delegated authority from members of the Medicines Safety Group to manage the medicines management agenda.

The post-holder will lead developments related to medicines safety across the Trust. They will be responsible for developing clinical standards relating to medicines and other related areas of clinical practice. They will have responsibility for the monitoring, evaluation and implementation of improvements via the Trust audit programme including BoSCA and KPI audits.

The overall objectives of the post will be to optimise Medicines Management systems within the trust to ensure safe practice, optimising patient care, considering national & professional standards, learning from incidents and complaints. This will be shared and discussed at suitable forums such as the Trust Medicines Safety Group, National & Regional Medicine Safety Forums and other relevant Trust Groups/Committees.

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Desirable

  • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
  • Relevant Master's degree or working towards

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience or Experience of working in a specialised area as a band 6.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of medicines management processes and of managing professional standards within a NHS setting.
  • Experience of patient safety issues and clinical governance.
  • Evidence of recent relevant professional development and experience of contributing to and effectively implementing Nursing and Midwifery and/or other professional strategies.
