Senior Pharmacist - Medicines Safety Officer and Governance lead
Band 8b
Part time, 30 hours per week (0.8 WTE). Permanent post.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and experienced pharmacy leader to join the senior pharmacy team as the Medicines Safety Officer and Governance Lead.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to help develop the pharmaceutical service.
You will need an excellent clinical knowledge base, possess significant and proven leadership, project, and change management skills and have an ability to build effective relationships and influence prescribing practice at a senior level.
You would need to be an experienced pharmacist and be motivated in developing the service and your own professional skills.
Main duties of the job
To lead the strategic development of the Trust-wide medication safety agenda and identify initiatives to minimise risk from medication safety issues which have the potential to cause patient harm including prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines and monitoring of medicines use.
To be the designated Medicines Safety Officer for the Trust. The role will support the Chief Pharmacist, Medical Director and Chief Nurse Officer in undertaking their overall corporate responsibility for Medicines Management.
To act as the pharmacy lead for Trust-wide implementation of medicines related NHS Improvement alerts, MHRA Drug Safety Updates and alerts and manufacturer initiated safety initiatives including production of action plans and monitoring of ongoing compliance.
To review medication incident reports, ensure appropriate investigations and implement action plans to ensure lessons are learned and, where appropriate
Support the Deputy Chief Pharmacist with all elements of medicine and pharmaceutical clinical governance, ensuring that policies and procedures for all aspects of medicine use are developed to the highest quality and that all relevant standards, professional, statutory and operational are met
Lead the Pharmacy Governance Group
Support the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- One year pre-registration training and experience
- Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented experience.
- Good all round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills.
Desirable
- Membership of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Evidence of further education / training in clinical pharmacy practice
- Formal Management qualification (eg diploma or degree)
- Certification of Supplementary/ Independent prescribing
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Post registration hospital experience
- Experience as a Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist or equivalent documented clinical experience
- Ability to cope with occasional distressing circumstances eg when dealing with seriously ill patients
- Able to think clearly in stressful situations
- Line management experience
Desirable
- Previous clinical experience in specialised field
- Evidence of successful multi- disciplinary working
- Teaching/training experience
