An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated individual to join our team of ward clerks on the Ophthalmology Department. The requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a part of a team in a patient focused environment.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will have excellent IT skills and will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with the the Ophthalmology Department
You will be the first point of contact for our patients, relatives and visitors in a very busy environment.
Accurate data input and attention to detail are essential.
A professional and presentable manner is required, as well as excellent customer service skills.

The main purpose of the role is detailed below:
JOB PURPOSE:
- Will work as a member of the Multidisciplinary team.
- Supporting nursing staff with clerical duties.
- Responsibilities include Reception, clerical and administrative duties and excellent customer service skills.
- To act as first point of contact to patients, relatives and visitors.
- To support admission, transfer and discharge processes.
- To liaise with patients families, GPS, Hospital and the wider multidisciplinary team as delegated.
Analytical and Judgmental Skills
- Answer telephone enquiries from clients/carers and other agencies, ensuring clear and legible messages are relayed to the most appropriate person. There will be an emphasis on the need for confidentiality, accuracy and the necessity to refer all requests for information to the nurse in charge.
- Ensure that clerical procedures from appointments, admissions, transfer and discharge of patients are completed in line with Trust policy/procedures.
- Liaise with Health Records department in relation to management of case notes.
- Print patient notes in the event of a transfer to another hospital.
