Job summary

We are looking for a Nurse Associate to work in our busy outpatient's department. You will possess varied clinical expertise as well as leadership skills. You will act as a resource for the patients, nursing and medical colleagues and actively participate in continued improvement agenda for the outpatient department.

The successful candidate will be flexible and proactive in their approach with a real commitment to providing good quality patient care. Experience working in an outpatient clinic setting would be an advantage but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The outpatient service works collaboratively with the consultants, specialist nurses, health records and appointments to strive for a seamless patient focused service. We are dedicated to ensuring a high standard of safety and quality of care is delivered and we continue to embrace challenge and improve our service. We pride ourselves in having strong leadership and encourage staff involvement and engagement.The department is open Monday to Friday 08.00 to 18.00, although occasionally there are some clinics run outside these times. We provide care for patients requiring outpatient services for gastroenterology, general surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, urology, cardiology, oncology, pain management and endocrinology. Clinics are run across two sites at the Royal Bolton Hospital and Bolton One.We call upon professionals who can manage their own workload, communicate effectively and work as part of a team. You will contribute to the development of standards, guidelines and policies, and develop skills to fulfil the roles required for the service, such as venepuncture, dealing with difficult situations and complex dressings. The post will also involve providing mentoring and supporting junior and new staff to the department. Previous experience, although desirable, is not essential as full training will be given.

Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Nurse Associate works unsupervised, within their scope of professional practice to deliver appropriate care to patients attending the outpatient department

  • The Nurse Associate Nurse works within clearly defined protocols and professional guidelines.

  • The Nurse manages their own caseload in the form of a clinic.

  • Undertakes baseline observations of Height, weight, Blood pressure, pulse and temperature

  • Undertakes phlebotomy, Glucometer readings, MRSA swabs and ECG investigations as required.

  • Plans and implements appropriate care following the assessment.

  • Frequently required to assist patients with moving and handling from chair to couch, chair to scales etc.

  • Undertakes the onward referral of patients following assessment if required e.g. Health Promotion team, district nurse

  • Writes reports, record observations and maintain patient records which detail actions and decisions made.

  • Keep patients and carers informed when appropriate, maintaining patient confidentiality.

  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and other service providers; to ensure care is patient centred, effective and efficient.

  • Maintain a professional approach to staff, patients, visitors and other colleagues.

  • Support Medical Staff in clinics
