Deputy Chief Pharmacist

Band 8C

Full time, 37.5 hours per week over 7 days (1 WTE)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and experienced pharmacy leader who must be highly motivated and enthusiastic to join the senior pharmacy team as the Deputy Chief Pharmacist.

This is a critical position in the Pharmacy Department as the post holder will support the Chief Pharmacist in the operational delivery of a high quality pharmacy service, monitor performance and with a strong background in service improvement, continually develop the pharmacy service across the Trust.

You will need an excellent clinical knowledge base from the secondary care sector, possess significant and proven leadership, project, and change management skills and have an ability to build effective relationships.

You will lead a talented team to ensure that patients receive safe, high quality and clinically effective care.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To lead medicines governance, assurance and effectiveness to the Trust. To plan, develop and implement policies and procedures working alongside partners in the local Health Economy, which deliver assurance of safe practice with medicines.
  • To deputise in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist.
  • To be a member of the senior management team of the Pharmacy Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Recognised postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.

Desirable

  • Relevant Management Qualification
  • Supplementary/Independent Prescriber
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Post-registration experience in the NHS, or a similar organisation commensurate to the post.
  • Successful management of change in a complex organisation.
  • Experience of providing prescribing advice.
  • Experience in co-ordinating and prioritising own workload.
  • Working experience of clinical health care, with a knowledge and understanding of the associated terminology.

Desirable

  • Experience of using Microsoft Office
  • Experience in investigating serious untoward incidents relating to medicines.

  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills
