About us
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust was formed in 2008 and, in 2011, became an integrated provider with community health services joining the trust. Covering a catchment area that also incorporates parts of Bury, Wigan and Salford, we deliver hospital and community based services from the Royal Bolton Hospital in Farnworth and from 20 health centres across Bolton, to a catchment population of 320,000 people.
At present there exists a well-developed, cohesive Respiratory Team based within the Trust but outreaching into primary care. This encompasses two Respiratory Wards, Outpatient Department, a Lung Function Laboratory and Bronchoscopy Service.
The service is medically staffed by 9 full time/part-time Consultant Physicians.
There are also 13 Specialist Respiratory Nurses in various subspecialties including lung cancer, asthma and COPD, bronchiectasis and TB. There is currently one Specialist registrar and one Clinical Fellow, 3 Foundation trainees, 4 CMT/VTS trainees and one respiratory physician associate working within the Respiratory Department. The junior staff are allocated on a ward based system. The Registrar/Clinical Fellow attends two clinics per week and support the clinic system under consultant supervision. The CMT/VTS trainees attend outpatients on a rotational basis and are supernumerary in this role.
