Job summary

Reporting to the Business Intelligence Team Leader, the Business Intelligence Senior Analyst will provide in-depth, specialist information, reports and recommendations by analysing highly complex, multi stranded data to support and direct senior management in their decision-making processes. The post holder will participate in the development of databases, reports and systems using a variety of methods and software tools. They will play a full part in the team approach to providing information that is accurate and complete, within agreed timescales, to meet internal and external requirements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the development of robust software for databases, reports and websites, adhering to good practice including source control and documentation. The postholder is expected to follow the full development lifecycle, including taking the lead in planning their own projects, working with customers to build a specification and iterating through prototypes and developments on complex technical projects from beginning to conclusion.

The post holder will work independently within the role, seeking guidance/advice from other team members where necessary. The post holder will manage their own workload to meet all necessary deadlines and requirements whilst working both remotely and located on site, at the same time sustaining levels of communication with other team members to maintain the level of collaboration and team work required.

The post holder will liaise with other BI staff to ensure data completeness, data accuracy and consistency in interpretation of definitions.

The post holder will have a high level of technical expertise and be expected to have the skill to analyse and solve highly complex technical problems, calling upon advice and guidance from senior colleagues when needed.

The post holder will be proficient in SQL server and Tableau

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated care organisation. Royal Bolton Hospital (RBH) has approximately 700 beds and a turnover of £320m. It is one of the busiest hospitals in Greater Manchester for urgent care and is a regional 'supercentre' for maternity services, babies and children. We currently have a vacancy within the team for a Senior Information Analyst/Developer, for either a fixed term or secondment for a period of 12 months.

The successful candidate will be supporting our Family Care Division. The ideal candidate should have experience and skills in working with NHS data, along with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

The successful candidate will have experience within Business Intelligence (or an Information Team) and ideally will possess excellent communication skills, good team qualities and technical skills (in particular SQL and SSRS) that they are looking to develop further

Job responsibilities

Utilise various local and national systems, containing patient level and other NHS related data, to extract core datasets to meet routine and ad hoc information requirements.

Continue the development of the SQL Data Warehouse and BI solutions. Participate in the development, maintenance and refinement of BI reports and cubes (Excel, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Tableau) in order to analyse and present highly complex and specialised information to the Trust.

Participate in the development of the SQL Data Warehouse and BI solutions utilising data from the Maternity Electronic Patient Record and other trust systems (Excel, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Tableau(?)) in order to analyse and present highly complex and specialised information to the Trust.

Implement national information polices, for example in response to Information Standards Notices, adjusting information procedures and information systems to meet their requirements and to allow for agreed local variations where necessary.

Work within the full development life cycle to plan, test and implement BI solutions, ensuring that source and version control is maintained and that all solutions have high quality documentation.

Lead on own development projects, from inception to conclusion, including liaising with customers and Team members.

Where new systems are introduced to the Trust, e.g. a new PAS (Patient Administration system) or major system peripheral to PAS, create, validate, maintain and provide new information products / systems from these, liaising with software suppliers to ensure accuracy.

Ensure all procedural documentation is reviewed and updated regularly and includes version control.

To produce high level strategic and performance analysis, necessary to meet the delivery of national and local monitoring requirements in line with relevant NHS guidance and the delivery of modernised, evidence based services throughout the organisation.

Handle sensitive and personal information in a manner that complies with the departments data confidentiality obligations (e.g. Information Governance, General Data Protection Regulation, Caldicott Guidelines).

Provide specialist knowledge and expertise across many areas of NHS information and policy.

To undertake detailed, complex investigation into sensitive areas, taking the lead in undertaking audits as and where necessary, to ensure that they are able to respond to national guidelines in the delivery of services.

Independently monitor, investigate and resolve data quality issues.

Investigate and analyse highly complex data with multiple, sensitive outcomes.

To generate, manipulate and formulate data into clear, concise reports which are adjusted to the needs of the recipient, from highly complex to simple reports.

To design and recommend improvement measures and set up reporting mechanisms to capture relevant data on the required basis.

To provide advice to individual project teams on collecting, reporting, analysing and using collected data, sharing learning and teaching tools and techniques to improve individuals skill in using information effectively.

To maintain a work plan for own area of responsibility which is regularly reviewed and revised, in conjunction with customers, in order to reflect complex and changing organisational priorities, which contributes to overarching departmental work programme.

Build strong effective working relationships inside the organisation
