This is an exciting opportunity to work with our Community Midwifery teams in Bolton and surrounding areas. The post will include supporting the community midwifery team by providing clinical care in the community settings and administration support.

The MSW will be expected to work independently with individual women and their families and also work within group settings to support the role of the Midwife, throughout pregnancy, intrapartum and the postnatal period. As part of this role, the MSW will play a key role in supporting women with all aspects of infant feeding, being knowledgeable and supporting midwives and women with the UNICEF BFI principles. The MSW will also support delivery of health promotion events and programs. You will be supported with a training program and be expected to complete Maternity Support worker competencies to enhance and fulfil all expects of your role.

Main duties of the job

With births of around 6000 per year, Bolton is the 'Supercentre' for the North West, providing high quality compassionate care to the women of Bolton, Bury, Salford and beyond.

You will have:-

1. The Maternity Support Worker is a key member of our multidisciplinary team. With her/his specialist knowledge she/he will support midwives in providing an insightful woman centred service based on current evidence and research.

2. The post holder will provide teaching of parenting skills using current knowledge gained from training, and will ensure that women their babies, and families are cared for in a safe environment and that privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.

3. The post holder will provide direct care and provide verbal and written reports.

4. To actively seek the views of women and their families on the understanding of their care needs and develop a relationship to ensure the woman's experience is positive.

5. This is initially a community post and the post holder will be expected to rotate into all areas of the maternity department.
