Job summary

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust are delivering a digital strategy and require an experienced Technical Architect who will lead at the highest level in the delivery of the technical elements of the strategy. The Technical Architect will establish a series of principles, guidelines and rules used by the Trust to direct the process of acquiring, building, modifying and interfacing IT resources throughout the enterprise.

Act as a Technical Lead in one of the following areas and deputise for other Technical Architects: EUC services (includes all end user computer systems and platforms, such as desktop, laptop, print and mobile devices as well as VDI technologies as required), Infrastructure & Cyber security services (all server Hardware, Storage Technologies, Hyper-visor infrastructure, security vulnerability assessment & patching).

As the Technical Architect, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful scoping and delivery of IT project work, providing direction, guidance and governance when needed to the technical delivery teams, it is essential to understand all aspects of each system, from both a business and technical point of view. This means having a full working knowledge of the products on the knowledge and skills framework and an in depth understanding of Enterprise IT Systems and Hardware as well as the systems used within the NHS and healthcare.

Main duties of the job

You will work with the CTO and Enterprise Architects to ensure a stable, viable digital landscape and consistency of design across the estate. You will be a key member of the Architecture team supporting and facilitating the evaluation of hardware, software and security to ensure harmony with the trust's enterprise architecture strategies.

You will transform business need and requirements specifications into clear solution designs within the enterprise architecture framework, ensure consistency with and requirements specified and manage the balance between functional, non-functional, service quality, cyber security, and systems management requirements.

Excellent communication to senior and junior staff will be given at all times to ensure knowledge is transferred and in line with trust objectives.

To ensure that the management; configuration; maintenance and implementation of enhancements to the current digital infrastructure across Bolton NHS Foundation Trust are completed in line with agreed procedures. Management responsibility for the senior support team to provide a skilled technical and systems support function.

  • To work closely with the CTO, Enterprise Architect, Data Centre Manager, project managers and suppliers to design and build IT systems. These could be designing the structure of a new health patient record system, or designing and configuring key back end IT Infrastructure.
  • Your role will be to provide IT focused Architecture and digital strategy for the organisation. You will build relationships with key external suppliers to promote partnership based working.
  • The Technical Architect is able to initiate the design process, create the high-level architecture and judge the most likely applicable technologies. This involves creating designs from conceptual, logical, and physical plans, including a high degree of information modelling.
  • Researching off-the-shelf products to see whether theyll be more suitable than building a customised or new system.
  • Support critical or priority 1 incident resolution offering technical expertise and proven troubleshooting skills concentrating for extended periods of time.
  • To be lead specialist in at least 4 technical disciplines as defined by the Knowledge Skills Framework Document.
