An opportunity has arisen within the Bowel Cancer Screening Team full-time Band 6 Specialist Screening Practitioner.
This challenging and exciting role will include management of patients care through the screening programme, attending community based clinics, support during colonoscopy & flexible sigmoidocopy sessions, and data collection & entry for the National Programme.
Experience of undertaking nurse led clinics; Endoscopy/Colorectal surgical experience and management of a caseload of patients would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
This challenging and exciting role will include management of patients care through the national screening programme, attending community based clinics and other acute hospital sites across Salford, Wigan, Leigh and Bolton. The Specialist Screening Practitioner will also support patients during endoscopy sessions, and be responsible for data collection & entry for the National Programme. This role also involves Health Promotion, Education, Audit and Research.

The Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) will inform patients taking part in the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) about the nature of the programme, assess patients suitability/fitness for further investigation of the colon and provide appropriate disease and health promotion advice. The post holder will manage their own clinics, taking responsibility for their caseload of patients and will refer the patients appropriately, and in a timely manner, for investigations and to other service providers. The specialist nurse will work unsupervised within all clinic and screening sites across Bolton BCSP with regular monitoring/clinical supervision from the Lead SSP and Programme Manager. The post holder will co-ordinate patient care addressing the needs of clients arising as a consequence of the screening programme and will promote and improve access to screening by all sections of society. The specialist nurse will act as the patients advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of the process. The post will holder work collaboratively with the program hub and local BCSP team and will participate in research and audit pertinent to the BCSP.
