Job summary

Clinical or Counselling Psychologists Band 8a or Band 7 to 8a preceptorships, (Learning Disabilities) - Two full-time, permanent posts. Part time hours will be considered

We are looking for two enthusiastic clinical or counselling psychologists who have a genuine passion for working with people with learning disabilities to join the Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) in Bolton. The positions will be offered at either Band 8a or within a Band 7 to 8a preceptorship, dependent upon experience.

You will provide a direct clinical service to adults with learning disabilities who have complex presentations. This will include the provision of consultancy and advice to other clinical staff. You will also contribute to the on-going planning, development and evaluation of the specialty and local learning disability services. Upon appointment to Band 8a you will have additional responsibility for developing the psychology service provision across our priority areas.

Main duties of the job

CLDT psychology in Bolton is based within a very well- established integrated service. The service is truly joint agency and multi-disciplinary. There is a strong, supportive and experienced health contingent, with other clinical lead roles across nursing, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. There is an integrated management structure, to which your input will be most valued, and NHS staff work effectively and congenially with social care colleagues. There are also established Intensive Support and Transition Teams.

The specialty has priority areas across our services for adults with autistic spectrum conditions, young adults (18-25) with complex psychological presentations and adults at risk of offending, including those falling within Transforming Care. Therefore, a desire to, and experience of working with these client groups would be advantageous. The service has a strong commitment to supporting CPD and the psychology section has regularly provided placements for trainee clinical psychologists from the Manchester and Lancaster Doctoral Programmes. Appointment to a preceptorship role will include funding and support for a suitable program of learning and experience Therefore, those who have recently qualified or will do so this year, and who have an interest in developing their careers in learning disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is an additionally exciting time for the specialty as there will be a newly appointed clinical lead for psychology, soon to take up the post. This follows the planned retirement of the previous post holder. The posts therefore offer the opportunity to join what will effectively be a new psychology team and so to help shape the specialty at a time of change and renewal.

Bolton Foundation Trust aims to ensure the wellbeing and development of all our staff team and are committed to the continuous improvement of staff engagement initiatives. This is reflected in the NHS staff survey results where, for the fourth consecutive year, the Trust obtained the highest scores in Greater Manchester for the theme of Staff Engagement.

Bolton itself is a culturally diverse university town within easy motorway access of Manchester and surrounding areas. The team base of Farnworth Town Hall offers on site and convenient street parking and is within minutes of the M60/M61/M62 motorway networks for those who may wish to travel from further afield.
