Pathology at Wigan and Salford (PAWS) provides Microbiology Services for Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Christie Pathology Partnership. We are based at Salford Royal Hospital a large and well respected teaching hospital, located only a short distance from the cultural and social advantages which the cities of Manchester and Salford have to offer.
We have ISO 15189 accreditation ;haveIBMS training laboratory status and process approximately 730,000 specimens per annum, with abroad repertoire of diagnostic testing, including general bacteriology, molecular, parasitology, mycology and serology with a number ofautomatedsystems including antibiotic susceptibility testing, blood cultures,Maldi-TOFandmolecular equipment. Continuous professional development is actively encouraged with regular in-house meetings. Further study may also be available.
It is important to note that if you are successful, you will be required to participate in all rosters when competent i.e. weekend, bank holidays, out-of-hours services including the on-call service.
Main duties of the job
To complement our excellent team further we are looking for an enthusiastic innovative and highly motivated individual committed to providing a high quality service to join us in this very busy department.
You should have good technical expertise, a sound knowledge of diagnostic microbiology, with excellent organisational, communications and interpersonal skills.
You should be either registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), or have evidence of eligibility and have completed the IBMS registration portfolio/ equivalent.
For the Band 6 position you should have either the IBMS specialist portfolio, or equivalent qualifications and/ or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
Please note that we are currently not able to consider employment of trainee Biomedical Scientists i.e. applicants without the above requirements.
