Job summary
This is a position for a Consultant General Surgeon. We are looking for an additional colleague to join our specialist team providing complex surgical care for patients across the north-east sector of Manchester.
Main duties of the job
1) To provide safe and effective non-elective care for patients requiring surgical admission whilst on-call
2) To support elective care as required through outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists and day surgery as the timetable allows
3) To participate in relevant clinical and educational supervision duties and governance

- Experience commensurate with working independently to provide Colorectal cancer resections
- Wide experience in routine elective surgery
- Broad experience in the management of all aspects of general surgical emergencies including basic Paediatric emergencies
- Skills in laparoscopic surgery that would allow the appointee to undertake the elective workload of the department e.g. cholecystectomy, hernia repair
- Experience in gastrointestinal endoscopy
- Good understanding of Clinical Governance
- Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change
- Evidence of participation in research
- Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report - not abstracts or letters)
