Main duties of the job

As a crucial member of our colorectal nursing team, you will play a vital role in triaging patients on the suspected colorectal cancer pathway (TWR/28-day pathway). Guided by senior colleagues and established protocols, you will ensure timely and efficient care for every patient.

Your mission will be to champion faster diagnoses and enhance outcomes for those with suspected colorectal cancer by coordinating essential investigations. You'll foster collaboration with our directorate management and cancer services department, guaranteeing that patients experience a smooth and timely diagnostic journey.

In this integral role, you will review and act on investigation results within your scope of practice, while also serving as a crucial point of contact for patients navigating the suspected colorectal cancer pathway. Your effective communication skills will significantly improve patient experience, providing reassurance and support during their treatment journey.

Additionally, you will escalate any concerns or results that fall outside your current scope of practice, ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care.

You will be the point of contact for patients referred onto the colorectal suspected cancer pathway/Two-Week Rule. Main duties of the role are:

  • Triage patients referred onto the suspected colorectal cancer pathway (TWR / 28 day pathway)
  • Support faster diagnosis and improve outcomes for patients with suspected colorectal cancer by organising appropriate investigations
  • Review and action on results of investigations, within the post holders scope of practice
  • Improve patient experience by ensuring effective communication and being a point of contact within the colorectal team

Escalate concerns or results to senior colleagues that are outside the nurses current scope of practice

The successful candidate will work alongside the colorectal team and cancer services to support and facilitate faster diagnosis for patients on a suspected cancer pathway. Full support alongside our colorectal Nursing team will be offered throughout. The post requires individuals who can work alongside our nursing and medical colleagues in surgery and cancer services, the successful candidates must be able to work autonomously once confident to do so.
