NCA Rapid Diagnostic Centre Clinical Nurse Specialist
Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust
The closing date is 06 April 2025
Job summary
We are looking for an experienced nurse manager, with awareness of cancer pathways desirable, to join our senior nursing team. You will contribute to the running and further development of this innovative diagnostic service for the communities we serve. This is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to be a part of a dynamic team.
The RDC is a Suspected cancer pathway for patients with non-specific but concerning symptoms which could indicate cancer, with the aim of enabling access to rapid diagnosis, or the exclusion of cancer, within the 28 Day Faster Diagnostic Standard. The aim is for this to be delivered through all necessary diagnostic tests carried out and reported in as few visits to hospital as possible. This is a nurse-led service, with senior medical input on hand as required.
Patients will receive outstanding information, guidance and support along their pathway. The service is managed as a single service across the Northern Care Alliance, with pathways currently delivered on two sites: Oldham Community Diagnostic Centre and Salford Community Diagnostic Centre .
This role offers the opportunity to help continue to develop the RDC service that has continued to increase its capacity and demand since inception in 2019. As well as delivering hands-on patient assessment. It offers development from a managerial, strategic and clinical perspective.
Main duties of the job
The first phase of the RDC offers a GP urgent referral service for patients with non-specific symptoms which could indicate cancer, as well as redirecting patients from cohorts of site specific Two Week Wait pathways. The RDC will provide a rapid evaluation of the patient to reach a definitive diagnosis, advice to the patient on management of their condition, signposting to appropriate support services and rapid onward treatment should cancer be diagnosed.
The post holder will work cross-site across the NCA, where they will be involved in offering clinical assessment, care, and leadership within the RDC.
